 The hearts were added after a revision of the post. As for the outline - they are actually insets behind the hearts; have a look at this screenshot from the latest build.

 Thanks Paddy. The bar is actually the coded bar directly from Flixel Power tools. I'll maybe make it into Zelda like hearts or something; but it really depends on how much I am going to work on implementing leveling. Anyways - your feedback is greatly appreaciated!

 Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking the exact same thing; which is why the nibbling attack has four frames. I'll add another the landing frame in the end of the cycle.
