No! No. Pokemon is great. It is. It has to be or all those hours and days and years have been a total waste and my life has no meaning.

I mean... it's.. uh... alright. You know, if you're bored or whatever. *shifty eyes*

Hey, that's like me only less grumpy!

Jal: Yeah, what's up with that?

Sweet baby Jesus. I originally read the eye as being a mouth (the dot above being the nose) and almost shat myself. Now that I know what's up, it's much cuter.

I have to agree with Gil, too. Generally I find generic eboy-esque iso pieces like this overly loud and low on technique.. banding, ridiculously high colour count, almost a complete lack of AA, inconsistent light sources...

Not that this is intended as a shot at this piece alone, just the style in general. Iso can be beautiful, and smaller, more polished stuff is likely to win me over every time.

Ilkke's pretty kitty may have taken the top spot, but Larwick... damn. Try to share the awesome next time.

It's great, particularly at 1x. I agree with B.O.B. about the sword, though. The way it's shaded make it look.. I dunno, like a blunt object or something, like the sharpened part of the blade is actually a flat face. I played with it a bit, and this is what came of it. It doesn't quite fit with the rest of the piece but...

Gil, dude, this isn't necessarily an "English" site. People from all over the world use it, and shouldn't be barred from taking full advantage of its features (including commenting) just because they don't speak English, or don't speak it very well. If you can't understand the comments, just ignore them. They weren't directed at you anyway.

As for the piece... I like Samus a lot, though her lack of eyes is sort of unsettling. Some stuff (primarily the AA and some of the highlights) could be refined a little further, but overall it looks quite nice.

Fair enough. I meant to say before... the sprite for the esper Phantom might be a good reference for capturing that glowy-translucenty effect. It's a lot less dull than what you have now (and so looks less... radiant?) but I guess that's kind of FF6's nature. Given the doubled size, it might be a bit hard to capture FF's style anyway, so take what Ive said with a grain of salt.

user
Tremulant @ 4/14/2008 09:04 commented on SMASHING MAD
I think one of the major problems is that your sprites are far to big to resemble ff6's. Some of the largest sprites in ff6 are around half the size of yours (Kefka's final-form sprite, for example, is only 127x127) while your Tabuu's body alone is around 200 pixels tall. The other thing is that most of the FF sprites seem to rely pretty heavily on (as good as) straight black for their darkest shade, and generally use less saturated colours.

I really love that background. <3

This one caught my eye, just like pixelblink's did. Must be that border, or the colours or something. Regardless, both were total "when did I draw this?" moments, so congrats.

Souly: Mostly 'cause of the  other constraints I was dealing with, I guess. The game's creator wanted both the feet and hands to be pretty close to what they are in the final sprite (size wise), and as the sprites had to be 16x16, it cut into the room I had for the face/hair/everything else. In all fairness, though, I thought his nose was pretty big... (just to be sure, though... we are talking about the same sprites, right?)

Alkaline: Yeah, but the hard part was taking that simple blue square and making it my own, y'know? ...actual sprites are on the page now, in the last two screenshots.

Everyone Else: ...<3!

I second the anatomical nitpicks and It'd be cool if the chainsaw blade was just a bit thinner, say 1 or two pixels.
These are just nitpicks, though and otherwise it's great. Especially the head and right arm. Classy.

Tomic: I find your cryptic message.. cryptic, and now my head hurts. Don't worry, I still love you, though. If you're referring to the fact that no one's using as an avatar, I should explain. I intended it to be used for myself only and so disabled the whole "let others use" thing (not that they'd likely have wanted to, in any case).
GOOD LORD HOW DID I LOSE MY AVATAR! Thanks for the heads up! *feels dumb*

surt: Yes, It does. Will fix promptly (hopefully)!

I agree with Acherbar. The anti-aliasing looks well done, but on a transparent image, AA'ing the outline just leads to problems. Nice work regardless.

Tomic: Yeah, the jointless limbs do seem to be catching on. Honestly, though, I dunno where I picked it up. I took to doing it up during my break from pixelling, so... maybe it's a subconscious influence? Definitely not my own invention, regardless.

Now that I think of it, actually, I've stolen it from a bunch of people, various illustrators' sites, random artwork I've seen recently, etc., so ilkke probably did play a significant part in it.

Thanks, guys. I'm glad to see my depravity being encouraged, not repressed.

big brother: You might have something there...

Cure: Point taken. My topic over at pixelation sort of died before I got any in depth crits, and I was impatient to post... something, anything after being away for so long. It's been long enough that the rust has started to take its toll. I think I'll keep the skull's simple expression, but... your edit pleases me.

Nora: See, even animal abuse can be funny.

iLKke: If only I had the skill patience...

Dennis: Don't let his face fool you. The cat's totally into it.

Tomic: I promise I'll never do it again ever for at least, like, a couple of weeks. Hmm... there's gotta be a conspiracy in there somewhere.

Morgan: They're tasty though. Can you blame him?

Metaru: Does this count as NSFW?

Mandarb: Given that any alternate titles probably would have just implied beastiality, its probably safest left as is.

Jal: Awesome.

Skeddles: Hey man, I'm good. This is probably the only place you'll ever find such hot skull on cat action so... relish it?

PixelSpy: Like I said. he's loving every second of it. Don't let the bummed face fool you.

Skull: Dirty humor eh? ...Have you heard the one about the white horses and the mud? ...they fell down and got molested.

Eria: Thank you. I try.

Ruu: Hey now! I'm a shining example of maturity... even though I still can't eat a meal without using my hands or getting food on my face or shirt (seriously, it's kinda sad...).

Greenraven: You deserve a hug.

Cure: I already talked to you once, dammit! Stop suffocating me!
