Hey nice job, zooming in they all look pretty neat. Now I'm in no way an expert, but for my crit I'll tell you that from first glance it looked like they were just three dudes chilling. I think it would help to differentiate them by either:

  • Giving the dude a more contrasting skin tone compared to the zombies, make him look more alive ( or give him something bright on his clothing perhaps if you want to keep the colours muted)
  • Bloody up the zombies some more to make it obvious they're the undead
  • Zoom it in a bit. It's way more obvious what's going on, even with a x2 zoom.
  • Animation would help the most, with stumbling zombies and a steady dude, but I understand that's a tonne of work

I still think it looks really good and the characters themselves are really neatly done. Hope I helped

Thanks a lot. Yeah I know, something went wonky in the transfer from frames to GIF and the transparency turned into a kind of weird lightening up. I can't seem to fix it

Awesome. Looks nice in motion too!

Fair observations. Thanks very much for them. I should never have put the guy in really.

Now you've said that about the chap being on the horizon I can't unsee it. I CAN'T UNSEE IT! There's only 1 frame where he actually appears in front of the cross and the choppy animation means 99% of people won't even notice it.

I need to take more time over things like this and not be so eager just to get it done and in.

Wow. This is so smooth that it almost looks like a piece of vector art

Great so I can count on your vote! In response to your comment:

The word sombre:

Here's a couple of the definitions of desolate:

3. without friends, hope, or encouragement; forlorn, wretched, or abandoned
4. gloomy or dismal; depressing

So depressing = sombre. I'm sorry if the description is a little confusing but I can't edit a challenge entry.

Fitting the theme:

Forlorn looking giant corpses rotting in the sun. Fairly desolate. The slightly chirpy little dude is because it's a retro pallette so I wanted a retro chap running in to the zone :)

I just finished mine and I think my eyes are bleeding on the inside from staring at that red. Pretty sure the Virtual Boy was banned from society when they found it didn't comply with the Geneva Convention.

Really cool. I love smooth little pixel animations and the fact you can create this with two hours work is stunning.

Thanks for the nice comments. Mijichu I think you're right on the contrast front. I wound up paying so much attention to lil' Darth that I didn't notice Yoda looks like a large t-shaped blob the second he stops using the force to steal from children.

ADrawingMan And now you've said it I'll totally give him a scumbag hat when I get the chance.

Cels: Thanks for the nice comment. Yeah I could tell he was a little bit unreadable but I was focusing on getting the animation done in time for the challenge (which I borked anyway in the end it turns out).

As for the preview thing I was completely spaced by the time I was done (it was like 4am) and I thought 'yeah, that looks good. I'd click on that.' Now I can see it looks like something from the Space Jam website.

Nuts. Didn't see the 32 x 32 bit. Otherwise you would have voted for it right?

About the colours, I'm not quite sure how that's happened. I only used the pencil tool and here's a pic with the pallette visible (pink background for visibility):

I didn't have AA switched on etc. Any idea how that happened? Sorry, I'm new to the whole pixelling/photoshop stuff.

Edit: Thanks for the heads up!

This is nice. I love flat shaded little animations like this. I can see he's supposed to be throwing something but if you wanted to go down in history as the greatest pixel artist in the world, you should add a flipped duplicate so it looks like they're doing an epic, super charged fist bump.

Then maybe cut to the world exploding
