Looks fantastic.  Could you a bit more anti-aliasing, but pretty solid anyways.

Excellent job.  What font did you use for the text, assuming you didn't draw all of that by hand?

The rust is incredibly well done.

The amount of detail and symbolism is staggering.  The little fat guys on top of the cornucopias are especially great.

The only way I could describe this is with one word: 'unsettling'.

Excellent texture, though I fear the darkest shades look a bit out of place.  They really make the whole thing look a bit messy.  I'd go with a different colour (perhaps colder) and smooth out the places where these shades appear.  You nailed the ambient lighting, by the way.

Spectrum-Star @ 3/29/2015 13:30 commented on orc...

His teeth look a tad flat.  Changing the shading to give a rounder feel and changing the shape of his right tooth might help.  Also, that indent under his nose (does this have a name?) is too prominent.  It should only be 1 shade darker, but perhaps a bit bigger, too.

I quite like the concept, though.  There's just something really hilarious about an orc in bussiness casual.

I love your unique take on the challenge, and you did an excellent job on the hair.  I bet you could have put some AA on the text, though.  Maybe used the pink she's laying on.

user
Spectrum-Star @ 3/27/2015 10:53 commented on Butterfly

The difference between the two lime greens is perhaps too subtle, and the blade looks maybe a bit too wide for how long it is.  Your use of dithering is effective, though.

user
Spectrum-Star @ 3/27/2015 10:46 commented on Surprised!

The proportions are rather wonky (maybe intentionally so?), and I'd reccomend removing the brightest highligh on the hair, but the shading and AA are fantastic.

I actually intended for the colours to be cold.  The decision was partly out of preference and partly to make the scene seem cold.  After all, it's gotta be a bit chilly at that altitude.  I do appreciate you taking the time to tweak to colours like that, though.  Perhaps I'll try working with some warmer colours in the future.

The feathery texture is particularly good.  Perhaps you could have given the fur more texture, especially on the flank.  Otherwise, quite great.

W-what exactly posessed you to do this.  Ugh, it even has a bit of texture to it.  That's just nasty, man.

user
Spectrum-Star @ 3/25/2015 14:51 commented on Stormy Seas at Night

You did a great job making the water look choppy.  It seems like you could have cut the colour count down by a couple, though.  And you could smooth it out a bit by applying some AA, especially where the darkest shade appears in the water.

user

I don't think the grey on the bevel shading looks very good.  Other than that, they look excellent.  I just want to push them all!

user
Spectrum-Star @ 3/24/2015 13:31 commented on Sunset From Orbit

I tend not to use dithering most of the time because it tends to give texture that I don't want.  On something like stone or bricks, it's fine, though, because the rough texture it gives makes sense.

@DirtyPig - I use Paint.net.  It's not designed for pixel art, but it's really straight forward and has all the tools you need.

@bittersweet_batty - Thank you!  I did indeed leave a bit of the sky empty on purpose.  Partially to keep attention on the island, and a bit in order to highlight how empty the surrounding sky is, securing it as an analog for the ocean.

user
Spectrum-Star @ 3/22/2015 19:41 commented on Lonely Tree

Yeah, the image perhaps shouldn't have been as tall as it is.  I kinda rushed the sky a bit, too.  I'm working on another piece featuring a floating island, a bit more ambitious with this one.  I'll see what I can do about spicing up the sky a bit more.

Also, I looked at your floating island piece and it's pretty cool.  You have a unique art style going for you.

It's interesting how he seems to have a spring in his step dispite being immobile.  I quite like the character design.  I would advise spreading out the shades a bit more.  What I mean is that the second brightest green should be a bit darker because it's hard to make out from the brightest green.

user
Spectrum-Star @ 3/21/2015 19:16 commented on Forgotten Guardian

I love the mossy facial hair.  That's a nice touch.  The lighting doesn't seem to be correct for where the sun is, though.  But that's just a nitpick.  The shading on the mountains in the background also looks pretty fantastic.  You should play with texture a bit more, though.  A statue that's been out that long should be weathered and old looking.  Put some cracks here and there and make the shading a bit less straight to give the surface an uneven look.  Maybe take some chunks out.

To silhouette better against the night sky, I suppose.  There's also the moon, the main light source, being at the back, and the contrast created by the light pollution.

You did a really good job of capturing the refraction of the water, and I dig those twinkling stars.

I feel the ledge could be a bit more dramatically shaded, however.

You absolutely nailed the colours!  Fantastic job.

user
Spectrum-Star @ 7/30/2014 22:31 commented on Sunset

The colours are amazing, but there are several problems with this.

  • The water is really messy.  It's easy to tell that it's a copy-paste patchwork.
  • The sky is rather empty.  There's simply too much empty space there.  You could add more clouds, or stars, or aliens... OK, maybe not aliens.  But still.  The emptiness takes away from the whole thing.
  • The shading on the rocks is off.  The second darkest colour is a completely different texture from the rest of the rock.  In addition, there are a few places where there are long, unbroken lines (particularly in the bottom middle) that distract from the peice.

You certainly captured the charm of a sunset, and texture isn't bad, and the colours are stunning.  You certainly have talent.  I'll be looking forward to seeing more works by you, perhaps even more sunsets?
