Yeah, good point; I dig your edit. I originally just doodled the rock formations in bright blues, did Proto in isolation, and then did the rest of the scenery. Should've gone back and changed those colors after I settled on the final colors for the rocks, but I was too focused on everything else.

Yes hello.

I like the style and flair, but the way the legs seem to switch positions between every swing looks a bit off if you focus on it.

I think the highlights on the skin are a bit too much on the green side, but I dig it otherwise.

You got the style down to a T, excellent stuff.

Pretty nice. As a tip however, most of the lighting in the sprite creates stair-case banding (pic), which could be avoided with some little anti-aliasing.

While the detail is superb, I think that the background could've used a few more details like clouds to cover the large open patches of blue.

While it makes things far more time consuming, I'd recommend taking more care with the way you place/manipulate pixels for animation. There's quite a few jaggies that could be avoided altogether with just a few quick changes.

Other than that, cute stuff.

@sonicspin
Yeah, I made the tail last very quickly (this whole thing took about 2 hours or so) so it's not as good as it could be. Similarly I think the body could lean back and forth more instead of just the head, the colors could have been better, the ears still bug me a bit... But hey, it was 4AM at the time and I had to hit the bunk, too.

In any case, glad ya two like it.

Interesting style; looks very much like it'd fit in something like Wind Waker or even Samurai Jack with the way it's constructed.

@DexRunner
Yeah, I have grown rather fond of avoiding straight color ramps (aside from maybe pure grays). With yellows in particular I tend to go towards warmer colors, because darker shades of yellow often times look muddier. Since most of the pixel stuff I do leans towards more "cartoony/gamey" look, a warm orange fits better than say, "dark goldenrod" (#B8860B, or sRGB:[184,134,11]). This then naturally leads to reds, which mixes well with black, so it can be easily used for AA in a piece like this.

Of course, I'm no expert on color theory or AA, but I'm glad that my work is of help.

I'd say you're doing quite well; I like the details you put in all the while it adheres to the isometric style.

I think for the main piece you could put up a spritesheet of the assets you created for the pico-8 game, and keep the current piece as a preview file.

On the game itself, it's pretty neat and controls well.

That's quite a lot of mileage you're getting out of such a small sprite. Nice job.

user
MrFariator @ 7/30/2016 05:40 commented on Ghostbusters

It looks like majority of those colors are (dare I say, wastefully) used on the gradient effect. I'd argue you could easily cut down the background to use only 10 or so shades, much like the road under the car

user
MrFariator @ 10/18/2015 09:03 commented on Vent Aile Megaman ZX Advent version Megaman Xtreme style

I believe the model ZX's pose is a bit off, as it looks like they are standing up straight on their toes. The torso area also makes it look like they are arching their backs while hanging their head low.

The Vent/Aile sprites look fairly nice, though.

user
MrFariator @ 7/21/2015 13:06 commented on Spearman Attack animation.

Not a bad style study.

I suppose that the main problems are with the outfit design (the shield is pretty bland) and how the animation doesn't flow back naturally to the default position. I guess the thrust of the spear could also have a bit more oomph to it, as it looks a bit too much like a quick poke.
