Thanks for the feedback. I'll try implementing these changes to see if I can't get it more interesting.

Yeah, the linework, at least on the "inside" of the parts doesn't work. Just the difference between the shades should be enough. Also, it doesn't really look like the gear is resting on that thing.

The shadow work on the cylinder is very good. Although I'm not too keen on the noticably conspicuous line work.
