And then the grey bit is shadow cast on it? Perhaps it might be clearer if the white/lit part isn't a perfect border around the gray, but rather have the lower part of that area white, and the upper part grey.
He has a sort of white triangle on his chest in official art. Looks like a shirt or coat is parting in that area.
The edit looks good to me too!
What is the white line around his neck? It doesn't look bad, but I can't tell what it's meant to be, if anything.
I definitely did not do them on purpose to fit Gaster's design, it just seemed to fit a bit more than full outlines.
From what I understand Gaster is a bit of a creepy character who is broken and hidden from normal view in the game. The only way he is visible is through cheating and even then he does nothing but speak in the WingDing font.
Here's what it looks like with connected outlines:

To be honest it looks a little cleaner and fits how smooth te face looks.. I think I'll keep that change if it looks alright. Thank you for the feedback!
The broken outlines don't look good to me, they make the piece look unfinished. Or is that part of Gaster's design? I haven't dug that deeply into Undertale.
The broken white and grey outlines on the torso also read like unintentionally messy noise. I can't even tell what the white is meant to be. They look especially out of place with the otherwise well-done AA and smooth shapes you made on the face.
edit:
I tried out that change and after a few days decided to keep it. Thanks!
