Hmm, I see what you're saying. I had an older version of the teapots where everything was a lot more blue -I didn't think there was going to be enough variety if everything was the same way when I opted for new composition and all i.imgur.com/d8etfwa.png
Here's an edit I made, not quite as pushed in towards blue as yours, the blue shadows make it look even more alike to a3um's piece which is similar as people were saying -I would suppose because both things are yellow, though gibli's teapot is yellow too. I do like your edit, but I am still having trouble deciding which I would prefer.
You may be right about the teapot seeming like a seperate piece from the ocean, I thought the reflections on the bottom would help with that, hmmmm
Teapot colors bother me, they somehow dont fit. Hot colors on cold ocean is really contrasting way too much to a point where they look like separeted pieces.
edit:
its cool to have reference when coloring, but make sure you know what you are doing with it!
Here's a general fix on multiple issues like composition, image polution, color etc.
Its cool to put the references you used on the description! (if you did)
Thanks dude :D
I'm not sure how I feel about adding more lightning since I feel like that might clash with the already busy wave texture (I'm also not too keen on putting that much more time into this). I did however, lighten up and saturate the BG a bit more! Like you pointed out, it was a bit too desaturated. Here's the older version to compare! Imo everything pops a little bit more i.imgur.com/8zaavje.png
@Zizka
Eyyy dude ty! Appreciate it a lot!
@arico
Thank you also, man!
Fantastic! I especially love the glow effect where the wave meets the teapot -- really well done.
I almost feel like the background could use a little more contrast and lightning (maybe like these: one, two) because the desaturated blues are a bit flat. But then again that might draw attention away from the foreground. Awesome composition either way!
I'll disappoint you with another wip, that'll show you >:U
@jamon
Thank you very much =)
@motrox
Thanks man! You've come a really long way too!
@onilink
Haha, mandrill said the same thing
@Mandrill
I didn't say thankyou on twitter, so thanks dude! Funny that you say "studio ghibli" because I've had the idea of teapots being boats ever since I watched The Secret World of Arrietty a few years ago (except they didn't have a sail on theirs). I tried making a teapot boat back then but that failed hah
@FlyGy
You make a good point! I threw an edit in there, nothing really major, but I made the oar a bit more blue and threw in some simple highlights on the spout and sail :)
Awesome work man. The waves are incredible. Love the mood. One thing that might help the piece is throwing a little more blue light on the mast and ores...you added the light from the lightning bolts on the ship but stopped there. Anyway, regardless these are really great pixels. Good job.
Absolutely fantastic piece! The mood and funky ship design scream "Studio Ghibli".
btw. thanks a ton for the retweets! :P
You're skills have improved ,and continue to do so, at such a rapid pace!
Great work man :)
A finished piece
"[...] thought it was okay enough to post here tho."
ah, nvm.
Kidding, I love it!
i have never seen a teapot sailboat
