This is an attack animation of the pirahna plant version that I drew earlier. I know that the bland background looks crappy, but I couldn't find anything that supported a transparent background for animations (would be very pleased if any one could guide me to one though. And iaza.com doesn't support transparent colors for anim. gifs so...yeah). All frames done in MSpaint, and I used image ready photoshop to animate them.( does image ready photoshop have some type of transparency option on it?) I mainly did it because everybody liked it the most out of all my redid mario baddies. Well, here she blows, with her lucious lil lips. If enough people like, I may just add an idle animation, and fireball animation to it also. But seriously, people, I'm only one boy... Tell me wachtya' think: is it groovy, or have I once again screwed up another animation?

↔ This is going to sound very primitive, but you could use a transparent background for each frame, then animate them in a simple free animator such as Unfreez. I would think that would be the most simple way to have a transparent animation, as far as I know.

This is purely amazing. The animation is so...active! I mean it's hard to spot pixels that stay the same, or are even cheaply moved. Looking at how active it as and how many frames it is, I think you deserve major props. That's an insane animation man. I hope that you either have a job as an animator (or go to college to be one) as you have what it takes!

update***

I just changed the animation a wee bit

1) I highlighted the plants lips throughout the frames so it doesn't look like they are changing colors as it moves

2) I gave it a wider mouth and horizontal chomping distance, so it can open it's mouth before it reaches its max horizontal peak.

Thats about it for now. The older animation is still in the preview box, so you can compare the two...tell me whatchya think peeps: better, worse, or wtf?...no matter the answer, I'm still willing to change it to please...

though im using imageready 7.0, i was able to give it a transparency by selecting the green in the color table and then clicking the checkered box icon at the bottom of the window. above the image there should be tabs labeled "original, optimized, 2up, and 4up" click the optimized one to preview it if the BG shows up transparent then export optimized again this should work i did it in like 2 seconds.

B.O.B I'm really sorry about my lame crit before. Actually I like this pic alot! But when I wrote my previous statement I was drunk and I couldn't see straight!

I know it's a lame excuse but it's actually true! My bad! Hehe! Here comes my real and only crit on this piece: I think he should open his mouth earlier.. right before he "stabs" with his head.. Maybe even as he loads up turning his head away. Because now it looks like a delayed reaction when he opens his mouth.. A little akward if you ask me! Otherwise it looks cool! Once again, sorry for my last crit!

i slowed the frame rate down with imageready, and i must say, its just amazing. to see the way the plant changes through the frames, its just amazing attention to detail and movement. I am speechless , u should definitely make a game with your new style mario graphics, it would be stunning. i think this is my favourite of all yout animations, if not works. the movement is just perfect for this character. not only did you get the movement right on each frame, but u got all the shading and aa just perfect. I favourited this a few days ago, and i have only got round to commenting on it. @chanfan: WTF is wrong with you, this is a masterpice of pixel art AND animation.

Well, chanfan, what I'm impressed by is that it's frame by frame. BOB didn't just copy the previous frame, change the character's head, and then repeat, he changed the whole body movement of this sucker in every frame. That makes it more realistic and fluid. Try animating something that's realistic and fluid, and then comment on how hard this was to animate.

again i suggest GIF movie gear because it is cheap (only about $40) and if this is for fun you can find an number of reg keys just by googling (if its for real distribution of any sort they can sue your ass for hacking, but like i said $40 is cheap)

Thanks for the crits every body. I'll try and see if I could tweek the timing and look of the actual "chomp" action you guys are talking about. And about the whole tranparency affair, only Adobe Imageready is available for me, but the other Adobe Photoshop CS program that came with it won't work (they were both ripped and put on my computer, yet only the A. P. CS program denies me access).

Because of this, I draw every frame on MSpaint, and copy and paste them onto each frame of image ready. I than optimze the file and save it as optimized. However, I choose the transparency option, but it won't let me choose the color to make transparent....ok, nevermind, I am going off topic here.

Once again, just here to say thinks for the helpful crits. I'll be fixin' this sucker up in while, so be expectin' some edits, and more added animations to it. Thanks again...

the chomping seems delayed and awkward, his mouth should be closed the second its head is completely turned to the left(our left) the mouth should be closing while its whipping its head around. the animation is good but the timing on the chomp could use some tweaking(looks like Faktablad is describing the same thing im trying to) its the principal of overlapping animation for a more natural feel. Yes, imageready does support transparencies when you export optimized gif it should prompt you with settings basically tell it what color to use as your transperency

Supaer cooel. My only critisism is that the chomp isnt quite large enough on first glance, to me anyway. That could be to do with the anatomy of the actual plant concept. Yet well done man, it's very stylish. ^_^
