Kaino> Thanks, but It did not achieve weekly showcase? Did it ?
Anyway I'm super glad you like it. Thanks for dropping by .
At first I wonered how such a simple animation made it to the weekly showcase... then all became clear. :L
Thank you so much! That is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.
Much appreciated! I'll be sure to keep your offer in mind as well.
Doppleganger> Hey, thanks.
Yeah it's quite fast to animate in "straight ahead" manner. To be totally honest, I think I've spent an extra hour exporting, adjusting timings/colors and fixing a few mistakes.
As a matter of animating FXs, my secret tips are the following :
- I would hightly suggest this book : Elemental magic vol 1 / 2
The processs of understanding physics principle is the real trick here.
- As any animation, I use and abuse the 9 old men's "12 basic principles of animation"
- Timing is King, rythm is Queen. You can build your animation using any kind of musical rythm : this is a great way to embrasse a FPS and keep strong beat markers to bring life into your timeline.
- Michel Gagné is the bestest in 2D Fx. I've learnt a shit tone watching his work ( this is a good collection of them + His work on battleborn is stunning - overwatch justed copied it )
If you need any help or feedbacks on some animation, just send me PM I'll gladly give feedback if it may helps.

Fantastic work, and 3.2 frames per minute to boot: that's efficiency!
Can I ask where you would point somebody trying to get a fundamental understanding of effects animation?
I have many years of professional experience doing character and object animations, and I've studied animation as well as been tutored by other professionals, but effects animation is something I have only limited experience in as a whole.
So I guess what I'm wondering is if there's the equivalent to the Animators Survival Kit, but targeting effects animations specifically? And if not that, how about some good tutorials or artist to study?
Thanks for your input!
Nice animation!
