This is more on drawing trees instead of pixel art, but this type tree should have some branches showing through the leaves. This would also help with the depth feel.
Also, the colors are.. not bad so much, but kinda plain for lack of a better term. When you think about the color of wood and leaves, you think brown and green. However, most things are an endless combination of endless shades, and we only simplify it to brown or green or any simple color. This is just philisophical rambling though..
For your purposes, just remember that as your darker colors should move towards purple, and your lighter colors should move towards warmer colors. You're using the same hue of green for every shade of green, and the same for your brown color ramp. Instead, each color in the ramp should have a different hue value. This will help give you more interesting "browns" and "greens".
This is nice pixeling though, which is why i bothered writing my ramblings. For a more clear guide on what I'm saying, visit this 'Resources and Support' section of the Forum. Lotsa good guides on color and all things pixeling there.
im so new at pixel art so i wouldnt be able to critique this other than saying its beautiful and really makes me miss summer!!!! :)
Hey thanks for the feedback CuriousBeefJerkey, I appreciate it.
I understand both of your criticisms, and the color part I think I was kinda worried about from the start. I don't have a whole lot of experience with color, I'm new to pixel art but not art in general, and I'm usually working monochromatically or in greyscale there. Making a palette is tough, but I'll check out the 'Resources and Support' section and note your suggestions, then try diving into it now that I've gotten some feedback on it.
Once I figure out my color ramps I'll come back in and try adding a few changing up the pixels to add a few braches with the leaves as well.
And thanks julie! I'm ready for the warm sun again myself.
