I keep looking at this and it just makes me all fuzzy inside every time! Beautiful piece!
@Wolfenoctis - Wow I like that effect a lot! If color count is moderate and it can be argued that it was done by hand, then you shouldn't have a problem with something like this. As long as it's reasonable, the artist get's the benefit of the doubt.
I'm gonna disagree with 120ms. That's too fast IMO. If you watch footage of large waterfalls, something like 250ms would be a little more realistic. This would really benefit from a few more frames to smooth it out though. More frames = drop the time per frame. With only an 8 frame loop it needs stay higher per frame. imgur.com/a/X2wMbel (250ms)
I see, fair enough.
Using some transparency you can get an interesting effect going while also smoothing the movement with little to no additional effort. Sadly this wouldn't work here on pixeljoint, but thought I'd share for the sake of interest: https://i.imgur.com/SnMPQuG.gif
Hi thanks for the comment!
The main thing I was trying to achieve was a sense of scale - if you look at the huge waterfalls (like Angel Falls in Venezuela - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z-OeMHxTP0) you barely see any movement from a far enough distance, even though they are likely moving at a ridiculous speed. After a certain point the water becomes slow-falling mist, before it pools at hard surfaces again. If the animation is too fast then it looks like a regular waterfall from a regular distance.
Great piece, but I think the animation is too slow. You can get away with 120ms delay which still looks slow enough but a lot smoother, have a look: https://i.imgur.com/CysgFjQ.gif
This is really great - atmospheric and the size of this colossus is truly impressive! Also, the colors and animation further enhance the effect of this art.
I'd love to have a dream like that. Great work here, the composition is really exciting!
incredible! IMO the water animation is fantastic, the speed of it fits with the viewing distance and sense of scale
I made it as a wallpaper of my smart phone! awesome
