I never really liked the sprites in Final Fantasy, not to mention that you couldn't decide genders. This variation uses the same limitations - sprite sizes (based on tiles), number of frames per animation sheet and color depth (3colors + bg color).

Frame Analysis (left to right):
Frame 1 - Idle Stance
Frame 1 and 2 = moving animation
Frame 2 and 3 = attacking animation
Frame 4 = spell casting
Frame 5 = critical state
Frame 6 = K.O.

I full heartedly agree with Adarias. These are probably the best re-imaginings of the original FF sprites so far considdering how many are out there.

This is a diamond in the rough.

There is a special place in my heart for the original FF sprites.  But your re-imaginging is nice and clear and I think a good deal better than most similar attempts.  So good job :).
