tried to see what i could do with 5 colors, and im actually pretty happy with how it turned out.  any crits would be greatly appreciated, though it already took me two hours and hes not the prettyiest of people

note: originally planned to have beelzebub behind him, since he is the one that actually says the line, but it didnt fit well unless i moved satan over and i didnt want to.  does it hurt the composition not to have beelzebub there and satan smack dab in the middle? probably.  if people want him there i might do a second version.

heavily inspired by ryumaru and his pictures of Gabriel

My good God, that is pure beauty my good sir, love the use of a small palette.

Well my point was that few hours for a pixel work ain´t too much imo. Wonder what you could have done with some extra hours! Never meant to under-estimate the effort and thought you've been through in the time you spent. My most humble apologizes for choosing my words so hasty.

The fact is that I can´t teach you anything about techniques, you are way ahead of me in many cases. I could've never done that light effect. Only thing I can do to help is pointing out the things I paid attention at and kick you in the butt to do better. Probably not the best kind of ciritique you can give but nevertheless, if you spend even couple of hours more on your next piece, I'm very glad.

Guess I will check out the discussion on the Pixelopolis also. Damn there are so many of these forums.

thanks everybody for your comments, for a furthur discussion of this there is a thread i made on pixelopolis bearing the same name as this piece (for obvious reasons)

kaltsu, theres no reason to appologize for a harsh critique, much of what you said is valid (and is discussed on pixelopolis, im still uncertain as to whether i will make the face clearer, reasoning explained over there).
However,  i would be careful be careful about throwing around words like 'slacky,' 'randomly,' or 'more effort.'  first, its insulting, second, you cant possibly know what sort of effort and thought went in, and third, none of that  actually helps a person to fix a piece.  If you are sorry for anything, be sorry for that, as the rest of your critique about the techniques etc was helpful.

Great colors, great lighting. Otherwise... bit slacky I think.

Can't really figure out all of the details. It occasionally looks like you've just put randomly some of the pixels on their spots and there´s serious lack of depth in the face, arms etc. Yea, I know, everything haven't always to be so polished but in this case there are way too many places where pixels jag out or in other ways look unclear. I´m definitely not one of the most eager spokesmen for dithering but in this one it probably wouldn´t done no harm in some of it parts.

Extra-ordinary piece for only 5 colors? Well... I wouldn't say. Extra-ordinary piece for only 2 hours of work. Definitely maybe. Still would rather see some more effort put in it. There´s huge amount of potential in this one.

Sorry for being so harsh on you. I like many of your earlier works and thought you could use some critique besides all of the praising you got. Was nice to chat with you. Now I have to run before your fans lynch me.

Full praise for playing with things unattempted yet in prose or rhyme... uhh.. pixel or art. Orange and teal side by side shouldn't possibly be able to work so beautifully, but... hell, that's why you're Adarias.

Sexy subject matter, too. Full 5 and a fave.

 O M G ! This is... perfect!

This is so CPCish, I love it. I wouldn't change a thing.
(for ref, CPC had a 3*** RGB colorcube (27 colors) to pick from, 4 or 27 onscreen.
I expect if it was done even more CPC-like, it would use these colors:
000000 7f0000 7f7f7f 7fff7f ffffff )

Although I believe the piece would benefit from some more details on the face, it´s quite impressive, since you´ve only used 5 colours. BRAVO!

oh, 5 colors... Oh...
Dont know that to say. 6/6

heh, your worrying about beelzebub in the composition when the border and text are what hurt it. me being a low color fan its hard for me to say, but i think addin just a little extra buffer shades and some good use of detail with them could make this piece awesome-er. but its definitely not an issue as its very solid with the 5 you are using now.

i think its awesome that youve gotten inspiration from my gabriel character, i never would have thought he could bring much inspiration!

Wooh, that's sweet. The only things that bother me about it are the letters (too small and jumbled together to make out) and the jarring shift of the black to the blue on the face (don't notice it as much zoomed in though).

Other than that, great work. 5/5, methinks

Saw this at pixelopolis, great stuff.  Wonderful lighting.  I agree that the text is a little distracting.

5 colours? You basterd! I'm so jealous you can do that with 5 colours.
No seriously, awesome as always.

5 colours is amazing! I'm really loving the highlights. The only thing is the text and border distracts from the rest of it... regardless, a fave
