user
Mantorok (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/10/2007 19:51

Actually, if you think about it... Eve is like the rebirth of mankind. The snake sheds it's skin to grow anew, and Eve is the push that drives man from the garden. If God is alknowing wouldn't he have known that Eve would go against his will? Just a thought.

This is absolutely beautifull D: I envy.

user
rockybolan (Level 1 Thug) @ 4/8/2007 01:33
Wouldn't Eve be fire, judging how the Bible feels about her?

Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic piece, but I think the name could use some revising.

Breath taking piece, and what I say is not a joke. As well for Schnauzer, please shut your mouth.

user
ctrl-alt-delete (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 10/1/2006 16:58
But it is, and one of the best I must say.  Just look at zoomed view.  No bluring, limited colors, all pixels.

user
Schnauzer (Level 1 Quiet One) @ 8/18/2006 16:24
I doubt it is pixel art.

I'm impressed by this, how it flows .. the use of color and illusion of texture. can't wait to see more from you.

user
-Mart- (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/7/2006 06:58
You're really one of the best pixelers around. I'm your #1 fan! ^_^

Wait.. let me correct that;  You're really one of the best pixelers around.

user
iSTVAN (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 8/5/2006 23:46
Guys, Larwick is right. Have you even compared the two images? It's not a direct 'pixel by pixel' carbon copy, its a reinterpretation inspired by a previous work by the same artist. I think it is incredibly and probably more effective then the original. I would like for Adam's body to be a little more clearly defined, but I do love the addition of tattoo-like texture on both figure's bodies. Top notch work.

user
rabidbaboy (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 8/5/2006 23:26
@IC: yes, but technically, it's still not pixel art.
So you're saying, if I take a picture of myself, shrink it, put it in photoshop, make a new layer and copy it pixel for pixel, it's pixel art? Surely, pixel art is the control you have over pixels? The knowledge and wisdom of where you should place every single pixel and more importantly, why you placed them there, these should be one of your tools.

If copying something pixel by pixel is pixel art, then my color-by-number set should be in a museum.

I'm through with this discussion. Fool is realy a great artist, but imo, what he's doing is not pixel art per se.

user
Irate Corpse (Level 1 Thug) @ 8/4/2006 11:48
rabidaboy, What you said is twisting my words a bit. If you have made a great piece of pixel art and you open it in PhotoShop, make a new layer and copy it pixel by pixel it is still your own work. If you start with your own work, you finish with your own work. He started with his own work and drew pixels over the top. It is art made from pixels. He drew the pixels. IT's his art. It's his pixel art.

I agree with Fool that slating him for not using specific techniques is unfair. It's not like he just opened the image in PhotoShop, shrunk it, saved it and called it pixel art. Is it?

user
Huggkruka (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/4/2006 00:27
Hmmm, even the old masterpiece painters cheated(they used very primitive cameras), and the result was often great. I won't jump into the "means" discussion here, I just want to say that the ends is great! Is there a hi-res anywhere?

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/3/2006 18:12

Guys, don't get me wrong, =) I'm very greatfull for all the comments recieved including those which makes me lift my butt and actually figure out what the pixel art  about =)... I don't want to be a pixel artist, there is something about it I dont really like. I don't mean of course actuall art pieces or technics, I'm just can't define the point where the art stops and sport begins. Perhaps, competition is good for growing skill, but becoming the end of itself  it's just growing ego. To set perimeter within limitation and fill it up  is not a type of challenge i'm interestig for. I think, general art community would work just fine for me  for help and guidense.=) Eventually nobody  needs I title to study any art  technic, right?. Afterall the fool I am.

Thanks again. =) Sorry for the mess.+)

user
rabidbaboy (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 8/3/2006 16:26
If you did this pixel by pixel: That's awesome! My only qualm is the woman's thigh, the one nearest us. It looks too fat. As in not fat, but too fat.
If you didn't do this pixel by pixel: That is not pixel art. Shame.
@Irate Corpse: So if you upload a great pixel art in Photoshop, made a new layer, then copied it pixel for pixel, it's considered pixel art? It's not pedantic, people work hard on their pieces, so it's natural that seeing something that's color reduced from an amazing piece make them frustrated and angry.
@Fool: Don't leave PJ. I am convinced still that you are a great artist. The hi-res pic is proof of that. Just really try your hand at pixel-by-pixel, usually, digital and traditional artists catch on pretty quick...Unlike me.

user
leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 8/3/2006 09:45

Fool, I didn't mean that you should leave, not at all! I just wanted to clear up that in this community technique is just as important as the final result. And I agree with Filax, I'd love to see you accept this 'challenge' and pixel with more limitations, because I (like everyone else here hehe) think you're a great artist, so don't leave just because of a mixed review on this page. Show us more of your pieces! ^__^

user
Irate Corpse (Level 1 Thug) @ 8/3/2006 03:29
This is some beautiful work. It may not be considered pixel art by some but the idea was yours originally, you painted it and used it as reference, and you drew each pixel of the submitted piece, so I consider it pixel art. I mean, you used all the techniques used in pixel art and it's 100% your own work. I don't get why everyone is being so pedantic about it.

Gorgeous image, well crafted. Great stuff!

user
Nevanda (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 8/3/2006 01:47

First impression: Stunning.

Then i read other users comments (cześć DE ) ... IMO is not a Pixel Art at all... but is still nice piece of work. That's why I +fav it.

user
Larwick (Level 8 Tengu) @ 8/2/2006 15:50
Guys, look at the original piece he made this from (which i suggest you add a link to from the description of the piece, fool), it's quite different to this one in a fair few ways, and i think it's enough to grant this being called pixel art. Fantastic piece fool, very inspirational.

user
Aleiav (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 8/2/2006 14:22
It's a shame this isn't pixel art. :(

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/2/2006 14:19

Filax_666, you're giving me way to much credits.

English is not my native language, I probably should learn a dozen bad words to make good discussion.

Thank you, I'll defenetly try as long as it fits my needs.=)

user
Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) @ 8/2/2006 13:46
Some people should learn from this guy! This is the right attitude to have in an ocasion like this: don't deny the wrong you've done, be sincere and try to understand if you are in the right place...all of this was done by Fool, proving that he is exactly the opposite of what his nickname says! I'd say "don't leave this place, just try to adapt yourself, consider it a challenge if wish...maybe if you explore the "correct" way of doing pixel art you'll find some beauty in it and try to develop your skills...who knows"

Really. Think about it.

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/2/2006 13:16

calacver , im probably bad on exlanation or you just answering to your own thoughts.=)

I'll try again. i undestand that reducing size does not convert hires into pixel - that's clear even for me=), and again - redused image basically  served me just as lineart  sinse new one was drawn with photoshop pencil and choosen colors on new layer. But anyway - i already know i came to the wrong place. "Pixelart" if it's all about what i think it is actually is not what im seeking for. i want to make small clear-detailed images, i don't want to count pixels alsough i would understand that idea as a challenge.

Thahks.=)

user
calacver (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/2/2006 12:35
Results of the finished picture is important yes, but to me pixel art is defined by art created by pixels, not hi-res art reduced, since nomatter how much you reduce it, it remains hi-res art. Isn't that pixel art? Art created by pixelling techniques as the name suggests? That's what makes it so different from other art forms.

user
Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) @ 8/2/2006 10:34
WOW I give you a lot of credit for the way you're handling those comments! Sincere and frontal! Way to go!

user
soopafly (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/2/2006 09:07
tight ............

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/2/2006 08:03

kaltsu ,  im happy but mostly with the drawing process, result is just a lifeless statement the way i see it.

And I'm suck - thats a fact.=)) I admit i'm pretty old guy ,( there is one boy who call me grandpa:)) and spend all my ambitions on other things then becoming an artist. And for a pixel art...well, no offense to anyone, it just sounds too dumb to try impress anyone with the technics rather then a picture in general. So i'm not.:)

Thanks.=)

user
kaltsu (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 8/2/2006 06:12
Fool, you don't suck and you know it. I see there have been lots of steps after original piece and I think you can freely be happy with the result. It's big picture with lots of stuff innit and you would be crazy and quite a genius if you could pixel something like this from the scratch. Very nice work.  Much better than original and it gaves this piece blessing in my books. Still liking this one more.

And for the other stuff in your homepage... wow.

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/2/2006 05:54
leel, It's seems to be the case. I'll check for another spot. =)

user
leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 8/2/2006 05:30

well it's good that you didn't call it pixelart, but here's the problem -  this is PIXELjoint, so all works are required to be pixelart.  And while this may be a really pretty picture, if it's just a trace, I'm not impressed (anymore). Sorry  =(

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/2/2006 05:21

Guys, relax. =) What ever this is - its just a picture. If content is incomprehensible all is left to discuss a quality of primering canvas.:)) I didn't call it a pixelart and I told you im suck on whattver I do. =)

Here is an original.

user
calacver (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/2/2006 04:27
Hey, that's not pixel art, it's tweaked hi-res art.

user
-DE- (Level 11 General) @ 8/2/2006 01:43
So he simply resized, color reduced, and retouched an old pic of his?
WELL...
If that's the case, then this clearly is not pixelart in my book.

user
tomic (Level 11 Admiral) @ 8/1/2006 23:56

not my cup of tea, sorry..

i don't think that this is pixelart by definition and it doesn't look like you spent much time in that overpixeling (some areas are still looking dirty like fresh from the converter and the dithering is just in the background/surroundings)

user
Aleiav (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 8/1/2006 18:53
Awesome pallate choice, concept, and execution!

Is that a baby I spot in the steam in between Adam and Eve?

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/1/2006 04:52

Mordalles, That's quite alright.  Alsough this one was drawn over on new layer using old one just to stay in shape,  I'm not sure if what I do is actually a pixel art at all - still floating on definition. Even if it's not - it still ok with me, im no artist - just having my fun.I  take a pensil, choose a color i feel is right and go on. Dont know much about pallettes yet about a lot of other stuff  i should know to deside who a hell am I.=)

user
Mordalles (Level 1 Hired Gun) @ 8/1/2006 04:24
looks nice. i would rather see original pixelarts from you (not just painted over old paintings, i dont really see that as pixelart). some areas looks colour reduced. but great painting!

just so that people dont attack me. ill just explain. when painting something, you have a vast array of tools to use, like burn and dodge tools etc. its easy to highlight certain areas quickly and adding shadows etc, and then reducing size and just going over pixel by pixel. also using brushes makes shading much easier, since its pretty easy to go over a painted pic with pixels, when you just have to get the colours from the paiting for every pixel. but im new in the pixelworld, so if its not a problem, forget about me. i might just submit a few pixellated paintings myself then.  just my opinion.

again, great painting.

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 8/1/2006 03:31

Zee , thats what I am - still learning.

zAk ,  those pics are kind of old, well - relatively old. I start pixeling last november...Well, I'll submit later.

Azrael , I'm not ready to make tutorials yet, most of the time i have know clue what a hell am i doing. Struggling between what i want and what came out.

mike2590 , if you talking about concept - it is much-much older  (from ancient hindu manuscript). Probably as relict as swastika, star, cross etc. =) Every concept alredy exist even if someone just get it.

user
mike2590 (Level 1 Thug) @ 8/1/2006 03:04
great work, but this does have a striking similarity to the water and fire elementals from warcraft one... yeah, from way back when.

user

You are genius. This work is wonderful. That not know say...
