C64 demake of XCOM 2. Some inspiration also taken from Laser Squad (essentially an earlier version of X-COM: Enemy Unknown or UFO: Enemy Unknown for us Brits) which was released on the C64 anyway.

Animation is 26 seconds long. You've seen it all when it's looped back to the first character (Sergeant Bakare).

Probably not valid as a C64 game, but it does adhere to the Hires visual rules (only two colours per 8x8 Character). I wanted to try C64 art and this was a fun introduction!

Drawn using Pepto's Colodore C64 palette for the 15th February 2021 C64 Demake weekly challenge.

Challenge rules:
Canvas Size - Exactly 320x200 px, horizontal.
Colours - max. 16. Use the C64 palette.
Animation - Optional.
Transparency - No.

Thanks CELS. I love the old and new games so could happily have done either, but I thought a demake of the original would've been too similar to Laser Squad. As you say, the stripped down nature of the newer games also helps to better convey the gameplay in the demake to anyone who hasn't played an XCOM game.

I also like the focus on smaller squads and individual soldiers in the new games which gave me the opportunity to do the portraits, so I'm glad you like them!
