I have no idea how well they are known outside of Poland but here there are legends about them. Written word mentions them since XIV but most certainly there were made in middle ages. This gingerbread is soft and puffy, not those hard ones, and come in four variants - covered in chocolate or glaze and those may be filled with marmelade or not.
