@CELS:
The funny thing about it is, that a lot of the things we know comes from games and movies. And gamedevs and movie directors usually get inspired by other games or movies, which means over the time a very unique style already developed for thosemediums.
However Once you start looking at original sources and high level scholarship a completely different and new picture comes up. Looking at weapons in conjunction with armour or shields is very important.
Context usually is the first victim of pure visual inspiration. The rest we tend to fill in with assumptions from our own experiences we also don't critically question.
And yes the blade here is 100% quartz, but that's one of the fantasy parts given the size and thickness :)
Cool! The design doc was a very interesting read, I learned a bunch of things, like connection between armor types and weapon types. It's always fascinating how many things like that won't occur to modern people. Very cool design too. So it's a blade of 100% quartz?
Really neat piece. The sword looks balanced, which makes it look more believable, so I'd say your research and planning definitely paid off. I also really like the scabbard, which was nice to include. Given all the work you've put into the design, the blade definitely deserves one.
this is so 1337! I especially like the shiny, serrated blade material. Looking at all the little details feels like enjoying a 5-star meal, and the companion document about proportions and sword history is like a pamphlet explaining why the meal is worth $5,000
