Ha, I hadn't read it that way before. Jesus tells them Lazarus is dead (so they have to go back to the town that wants them dead) and Thomas replies "Well lets all just go die then!"
This is what I mean when my family asks if I go to church and I deflect with "No but I do online bible study."
Heh, exactly! Andrew: "Hello, Jesus. Let me introduce you to my brother" Simon: "Hi, I'm Simon." Jesus: "Hmm, no. You will be called... Peter. Or Pete. Maybe Petey."
That's pretty aggressive. Having re-read the story of Lazarus, Thomas the apostle also strikes me as a snarky son of a gun. Anyway, stay tuned.
Can't wait to see it, the world needs more Lazarus art, such a rich story to illustrate.
He's not only buried but buried in a cave. Jesus openly weeps at the tomb, a very human moment. Martha warns Jesus against opening the tomb because of the stench of a 4-day old corpse, and then the powerful command, "Lazarus, come forth!", with Lazarus stumbling into the sunlight wrapped up like a mummy.
Plus the prelude where Jesus tells his disciples they need to go visit because Lazarus is asleep, and they're like "Well if he's napping he'll be aight", and then Jesus is like "No dummy he's dead". I'll bet it was kind of annoying to be Jesus's friend tbh, always speaking in parables. Like shit dude I didn't know he was dead let's roll out then.
I've been planning a Lazarus piece for a while now, so I was excited to see this. It is suitably freaky.
Love the palette and how you've used it here, what with the cyan flat in contrast to the rest, and that purple/magenta backlight on the bearded man.
Very nice! The "cluster buster" effect brings to mind early PC-game cinematics. I think it's a similar effect to heavily compressed 3d renders? But with more clear/consistent colors.
