This 1480s realistically furnished Renaissance Room is game-art for a project I spent the last 9 months on. The game is freely available on itch.io and a lot more information can be found on the project page:

One interesting thing to note here is that unlike in most of the projects I work on, this project was planned as an extensive learning experience for the team. I want to name Kamil Kosowski the second half of the core team. I did a little bit of coding and a whole lot of design, planning and writing, but as this is PJ let's focus on the art.

My goal was to come up with a style which makes an accurate room interesting, playful and exciting. The stylization is a playful semi-realistic style which hopefully will be appreciated by young and old audiences equally.

The color palette is directly inspired by the pigments available at the time, because we wanted to capture the feeling as close as possible. A lot of inspiration particularly for designing the painting style and handling of texturing has been taken from Gustav Klimt, but translated to pixel art.

Also a fair amount of art of the northern Renaissance was used, I especially want to point out Tryptichs made by Robert Campin and the paintings of Hans Memling, and a lot of detail also came from the "Wolfegger Hausbuch". Generally hundreds of references have been used, especially the art catalogue book "Van Eyck to Dürer" (Till-Holger Borchert) came in as handy collection of references.

About halfway in this project we found excellent help through the right historical expert (Andrej Pfeiffer-Perkuhn) who supported us extensively with personal photographs of reenacted scenes, book sources, corrections for clothing and little objects to make sure all things displayed are about as accurate as it is possible for an enthusiastic indie production with only a small amount of personal funding to spend on.

It's been an amazing experience and we are very proud of the outcome. I hope you'll enjoy the art and maybe even download and play the project :)

@marceles
Thanks a lot.

The windows have 3 part to be used in diferent ways. It#s quit ean ingenious bit of engineering.
The top part is made from glass, the middle is completely open and the bottom has the wooden grid in front.

The upper part is for light only. It can be opened when it's cold and still let light in, althought there is glass, those are smaller glass pieces which are not that clean, so looking outside through them is a bit difficult. whcih doesn't matter if they are placed in the top.
The bottom part with the wooden grid is the one you can easily look outside, but not easily inside. It's however producing a dotted pattern if you want to let light in, so you leave it closed if you just wnt light but not look outside.
The middle part is completely open, most effective for circulation but also not helping with keeping privacy.
Depending on what you want you can open and close the wings how you see fit.
