"A sequence of unfortunate absences of reading comprehension"
I found pixeljoint.com and noticed the weekly challenge about 5 hours before the deadline, and had an idea about a pink elephant masquerading amongst various different kinds of piglets. Decided to go with a pikachu theme instead, with a ditto masquerading amongst an older and newer style of pikachu. Went with a grassy background.
It was at this point, with the image "finished", that I noticed/remembered the palette restriction. I thanked the powers that be that I didn't go with the pink theme, and that the palette happened to contain the colors I needed, aside from the background. (Though originally, all pikachus were different shades of yellow) Background had to change from grassy to "pokemon battle style" due to the lack of green.
...it was at the point of submission, that I noticed the rules at intentional pixel placement everywhere, and had to go on a bit of a cleanup. Not sure if this'll qualify, since it's probably still a bit oekaki-ish, but I thought I'd give it a shot, since I made it specifically for the contest. We'll see, I guess.
So. Three styles of pikachu. First was drawn for memory, and made the "ditto masquerading as pikachu". Then there's the old-style pikachu seen in pokemon cards (pokemon card used as reference) and the new-style pikachu (with anime screenshot used as reference). |
