In my videogame, I needed a way to show the player that the game was busy processing animations, and would not accept input. The method I decided on was to add a flame animation to part of the user interface. I based my technique on a mix of Rappanem's, Saint11's, and ke2uke's fire tutorials. I started with a simple animation of "bubbles" moving in the direction of the fire. Then I added a bunch of "flamelets" that moved up and around the bubbles, to provide most of the perimeter of the fire. Then I filled in some of the gaps, then shaded everything. Colors were mostly picked from Rappanem's tutorial. |
Thank you for the kind comments! The intent isn't to cover anything, but to provide some visual flair.
You can always add more frames to make things smoother, but sometimes that results in less punchy animation. This animation plays at 10FPS, which is plenty for the style of game I am making.
