…“She was not like this when she first came. I remember her singing in the dungeon for hours. She had such a beautiful voice that you could never have guessed what she had endured. I cannot imagine what happened during those nights. Otto never allowed anyone near them at those times. I only ever saw the aftermath. She was like a frightened little bird, her eyes full of sorrow and tears. But those nights changed something deep within her.” Lorenzo rose from her chair and crossed the room toward the window as Gerard spoke. “And that fool thought embracing her was a good idea after all of that?” He slammed her hand upon the table and turned toward Gerard with worried eyes. “You saw the traces of the massacre at Caracalla. If it truly was her as we suspect, then protecting Otto is no longer a good bargain. And do not become sentimental about her, she is dangerous for you too.” Gerard answered without lifting his gaze from the dusty carpet. “It was the Prince’s order. I had to.”
This piece is the second illustration for a game I created for our Vampire the Masquarade TTRPG campaign we played with the friends and set in 17th-century Rome. I’m planning to draw the characters and NPCs from the game whenever I find free time, along with short story glimpses that capture their personalities and intentions.
