My entry for Challenge 2000: Design Your Own Challenge ...
It's the early '80s, and a brand-new gaming console, the PJ System, has just been introduced to the market. It boasts a high resolution of 192 x 144 pixels, and its hardware allows for the configuration of almost any color via RGB code! Unfortunately, there are hardware limitations. Only 8 colors can be configured for each scene (thus displayed at a time). Additionally, each frame for in-game sprite characters must fit within a 16x16 pixel box.
So here we go... Draw a screenshot from a fictional 2D platformer released for the PJ System console. As a reference, think of games like Castlevania, Metroid, Myth, and plenty of others. Note that your screenshot should depict a regular level scene (not an intro screen or a final boss battle).
Try to replicate the atmosphere of those retro platformers, while working within the PJ System's hardware capabilities.
Canvas Size: exactly 192 x 144 pixels
Colors: max. 8 colors (your own palette)
Transparency: forbidden
Animation: forbidden
Good luck! |
Thank you! If I only had a time machine and the opportunity, I would love to design my own 8-bit computer or console.
