British history is really interesting, with people and cultures from all over the world having shaped it. I wanted to draw a few significant people from our history who represent some of the different peoples who have shaped the country throughout time.
From left to right, we have:
Boudica, who was queen of the Iceni in what is now Norfolk. She led a revolt against the Romans in CE 60 or 61.
Constantine the Great, who was proclaimed Roman Emperor in York in CE 306. A statue of him stands near the site, in the grounds of York Minster.
Geoffrey Chaucer, who is known as the father of English literature and authored The Canterbury Tales between 1387 and 1400. I based his appearance on this image on Wikipedia. The other two don't have any contemporary portraits (or at least not ones that bear much resemblance to real people).
If I'd had more time, I'd have loved to get a Viking in there (possibly Eric Bloodaxe), someone from the Renaissance era and someone from the modern era.
In addition to the country and price, I had to put the silhouette of the king's head in the top right. It's just so ingrained in my brain that stamps look that way here.
