My main motivation over the years has been to simplify sprites, making them as clean and un-noisy as possible whilst still making them be dynamic and readable.
6 sprites for 6 different factions:
Yellow sprite:
Urban militia based primarily on Lower-class often non-slave Mamluk infantry, with a Moorish-Inspired shield.
Cyan Sprite:
A standard warrior based upon traditional low-class non-armoured Aztecs who have yet to capture anyone, wielding a mace studded with shards of Volcanic glass or Obsidian.
Blue sprite:
A Javelineer or "Psiloi" based upon early Byzantine/Late Roman militia, with a bit of Greek Peltasts from Antiquity thrown in (hat and particularly the Pelte/Crescent shield.
Purple sprite:
Generic european style peasant armed with a thresher flail. Nothing of note.
Orange sprite:
Ancient-Egyptian Late Kingdom styled "heavy" infantry. Heart symbol on the groin is actually a form of protection made out of stiffened linen. The axe is the most fantastical piece of equipment here.
Green sprite:
A Dark-Age/Early Medieval scottish styled warrior, struggled with the shield perspective.
Any and all critique is more than welcome. |
Thanks, I'm working on a second lot of units and will do this!
