The boulders on the sides of the ship look mis-shapen

Well many games have bosses built out of an asteriod don't ask me why. The asteriod splits and the gun is exposed. The it closes up again like a clam. I wanted to use the gameboy palette so that's why the grayscale in 4 colors.

Why are the sides of the boss/enemy so amorphous and randomly shaded? I think they'd look a lot better if they were rounder.
