No, there is ten. Transparency counts as a color, and there is a very dark navy under the pant legs. Plus the two blues, the two browns, two reds, black and green makes ten.

Even though the contest is over, this piece does go over the color count, seeing as how you used a transparency( which technically adds a color). Therefore you have 10 colors, not 8 ( I counted them, manually). The one you probably overlooked was hidden in the black-ish outline, underneath the lifted leg( it looked like a dark brown that blended well with the dark black outline) If you would have gotten rid of the transparency, or taken away another color, and that strange dark color, this would have technically been ok for the contest...But that's old soup, so just keep color count in mind, the next time you submit...
