Yet another enemy for my beat-em-up projects. The first lady in this sausage fest of characters! Jess is totally inspired by 80s roller skate aerobics type of ladies, but the roller blades modernize her enough for the 90s. She's a speedy enemy, hence the wheels, and she'll do annoying acrobatics against our protagonists. Agility over brawns is the theme of this character. That's not sexist, right?
Beat-em-ups don't really make any bones about letting you wail on women. Early as Double Dragon, there was the memorable Linda enemy who attacked people with a whip. Some north american versions of games turned some of the women enemies into men because violence against women is GHASTLY AND WRONG. Well, it is, but in a fantasy consequence-free fight-fest like a beat-em-up, wailing on women and having them wail on you was just equal opportunity.
There's a lot of sexual objectification of female bodies in video games, and beat-em-ups were no exception. I tried to make the design not be too sexploitative but still feminine, but I think in the end she might not look tough enough to hang in a street gang. I'd have given her wristbands but I already have too many enemies with those! And I also worry she's too small. Or maybe it's just Danny who's too big? |
one thing bugs my mind, however - is lenght of the legs right?
