It's very nice piece. This is great example that somewhere we don't need dithering. Of course on head is dithering but on the cheeks not....Perfect work..5/5 and fav'd
I was actually thinking I might do a proper background for this after the challenge - if I don't, I'll keep this in mind. I tried several colors from the existing palette as the background, but I decided the purple made it pop a bit more so I stayed with it. Thank you :)
Lovely. Only crit (apart from differing styles on turban and face) is that bg color doesn't seem a part of the picture. Maybe fix the palette so that darker shades go a bit more toward that bg color's hue thus making it proper 'ambient color'? Or just take a bit of blue out of it :D

I think I just cropped it down to the face so that some time from now I'll see it in my gallery and get motivated to fix it, tehe. Also - I'm still not sure if it's better to be a hidden "gem" or have you click and be disappointed by the rest of it. Thanks ^_^

i have to say, when i saw the title i was like, humm.......another large portrait......and then i saw the title and was like, turban? and was enticed to actually click on what turns out to be a real gem.
don't get me wrong, the piece is great including the face, i just think the preview might want to show where it really shines - the headwear.
Yes I do plan on going back and fixing up the face. I had to ignore a lot of critique just because the fabric took a lot more time than expected. Thanks
I love the colors, they're really personal. The piece of fabric is stunning, well contrasted and very detailed. Only thing i regret: the turban color should be more contrasted with the skin, their colors are too alike.

The turban is great, but the stylized shading on the face is killing it for me. You have some fabulous dithering and detail in both pieces of cloth. The line-art, lips, ear and eyes are all fantastic, and your palette is very nice. But, with that cartoony/blotchy/vectory shading on the skin, I find myself looking at the highlight on her cheek, the shapes on her forehead and the aliased shading on her neck instead of the textiles.
I know that this was finished "barely in time" for the textiles challenge and, in that regard, the piece is quite successful in presenting pixelated fabric. I just think that the piece as a whole could be better with a different shading style on the skin.
I understand where you're coming from - my original sketch was of a big fancy kimono because I sort of pictured the loose drapery clothing, but the challenge description does say: "Pixel a character or scene that involves the complex properties and patterns of cloth, such as in folding, bunching, draping," so I don't think that I misunderstood that really..
I'm not quite sure how I went from kimono to this, but hopefully I'll score some points for originality XD
This looks really beautiful and realistic! I couldn't even imagine how it would look with all the 32 colors allowed! I thought I already had my favorites for the challenge, now I have to reconsider... Great job!

This piece is great on a realistic point of view, especially with the face. However, in terms of the challenge and cloth, I don't think the head band is showing much in that department. I feel like I'm more focused on her face, rather than the moptop. Maybe it's because it seems so tightly woven around the head, in that the challenge made me think of drapery type clothing more focused on looseness and whatnot. In that frame of mind, the head band's texture seems like the husks of corn, or tamales. I guess in that retrospect, yours is more original than the rest, but not sure if it will hurt or help you in the voting category. On a pixel standpoint, however, this is one of best pieces yet! I hope to see more junk-funk from you in the near future Leel...or else...
