@youcrumb: maybe because its suposed to be an avatar? or perhaps because its suposed to mimic Leel's avatar? who knows. either one or the other, you've earned you macho medal for this mature rant.
Interesting. yet I have to apologize, and explain the terrible appearance of this pixel: its all My monitor's fault. its dead, and the screen is so abused that the only way i could use it properly is to digitally increase the gamma of my screen, but this only contributes to ruin all the colors i could use. to be honest, i can't see the darkest colors.
nw, for your edit, yes, it does match the style(i guess a bit more than mines), but it somehow fails at the idea of portraying Leel in a sexy way. at least that was my intention. in your edit, she looks too... goofy to be credible. yes technically accurate, i believe. but i must manage to fix these points in order to truly finish up this piece.
Nice! I dont know why, but I somehow knew that you made it as soon as I figured leel didnt.. Maybe its just because you use it as your avatar, but maybe even more likely I start to reconigize your works :)
Okay then, here I go. There are a few things that don't work/don't match the style. One thing, is the use of too many thick, unsmooth black lines. Leel did this a bit, but not in a matter that it becomes dominating. You however seem to have done this in such matter it changes the style you're going after. Reducing the thick lines and improving the aa in those areas should help improve this alot. One thing I also notices, are the stripes on her face. They don't work in your version. Why? Because Leel used 45 degree angles only for them. 45 degree angles technically do NOT need to be AA'ed. (You'll notice Leel only lightly aa'd some of the 45 degree lines) Since 45 degree lines are about as smooth as straight ones. There are also some more slight style inconsitensies. Anyway, here's an edit: http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/307/edit88ra3.gif
and to be more specific: the hair on the right side where it has a black outline next to a lighter brown, and then the black stops abruptly - I'd make it dark brown by the highlights, and black on the bottom portion. Also the highlight on the hair that goes over the shoulder, that should have more of a buffer, so that the highlight never actually touches the black. And the selout on the arm is a wee jaggy - it's all about the smoooooth line ;)
Opacus: And that's why i wanted to do Leel's one. My own AA skill isn't as good as it should be, so choosing this one in particular to mimic was the 'challenge' itself. So this is not as finished as I would like it to be(although I've spent at least two days on it), so i'm still open to suggestions on how to improve anatomy(specially on the hand) and the AA in general.
We are SOOO gonna keep her to that. And now for a more serious comment: I think it's too messy to look like Leel's ava. Leel's ava is very clean and well AA'd, I think you should spend a little more time on it.
