Im not trying to argue in anyway, in fact i did not understand most of what you said, and thought you were mostly speaking of proportion. Im not english it does not help... I always simplify a lot when I pixel, mostly because I am lazy. And I hates anatomy comments, nothing is more useless than that kind of stuff since the the beginning of the twentieth century. I could never make a huge thing in pixel art, while I could paint without any problems on a big wall XD Thanks for commenting anyway, I'll ask some british friend to help me translate, though I probably wont edit it.
EDIT: Oh merde t' es belge en fait, on aurait pu parler en francais. -_-'
It's okay to have bad anatomy when you have a WIP?
I stand by my view. The left arm does not have a shoulder, the forearm is too short and the shins are too small. Right now, the thighs are more than twice the length of the shins, that's impossible, even in cartoons
It'd be better if you embrace critique, not blame it on style...
And toy story used simplified anatomy, that follows all the basic anatomy rules and even the advanced ones. They just exagerate features, like japanese artists do with chibi. It's a common practice in cartoons.
What I'm basically not liking is composition here. the normal body curvature of a human is not present, creating a serious uncanny valley that one gets when seeing for example stunted growth in small people. I suggest working some shoulders in and slimming the waist a little.
Also, while the legs are very good, the feet could use some work. Elongate the shins a little, give him ankles and maybe some bigger feet.
@Gil: I actually did choose not to follow anatomy basic rules, just as they did for the Toy Story movie, check. I thought it was obvious. For the shading I think it works, maybe it lacks contrast... thanks anyway.
