First attempt at a full background ever. Made to go with two characters I pixelled a little while ago, but they block a bunch of parts of the image, so I decided to submit the background by itself.

Took me quite awhile...

Sorry, I'm late here!

This is so awesome, but I think it's hindered by the sky. Too saturated, too many (beautiful) clouds, it's really distracting and kills the depth.

I just had to make a quick dirty edit.

It might even work better with a completely different hue.

Since no one else remarked about it, I'm probably off the mark... ;-)

Peeter (Level 4 Button Man) @ 7/13/2009 17:33

The tree trunk looks so good.

Levi (Level 1 Thug) @ 6/13/2009 08:46

this is so awesome.

OSM (Level 3 Hatchet Man) @ 2/24/2009 12:23

The colors and texture of everything is beautifully done. I absolutely love this. If this were in a game I'd play it in a heart beat. 5'd and fav'd.

Dude, your RPG background was a huge inspiration :p

junkboy (Level 2 Peon) @ 1/27/2009 13:21
Great video game kitsch!

006 (Level 2 Corporal) @ 1/21/2009 21:46
Awesome background!

Kaiseto (Level 6 Made) @ 1/20/2009 15:14
I didn't use tiles,  though some large sections of grass are repeated and slightly edited. I'm only seeing it now for the first time. It actually has nothing to do with the copying and pasting (I pasted large horizontal strips next to each-other, never vertical ones). It seems to be a side effect of me just not paying attention to how similar a bunch of the grass around that area is in length.

Mathias (Level 6 Garbage) @ 1/20/2009 15:04

Great vegetation.

There seems to be an implied horizontal line 10px up from the bottom of image, resembling a bad tile seam, slightly distracting.

You kick my butt, that's for sure.

Very good work! I like the grass, flowers, and rocks. The tree seems odd to me cuz the roots are so huge and yet the trunk is quite short, but I guess thats just how it is. I think it would look good if you added some little tiny or medium-sized roots coming through the rocks here and there. Or maybe just divide up the existing roots into slightly smaller ones? Anyway, good job.

This is really great. The colors are amazing.

skooba-dude (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/17/2009 18:58
Awesome work on the characters, they definately fit the background well.

Kaiseto (Level 6 Made) @ 1/17/2009 18:25
Knock yourself out. They really do cover up a lot of the image.

skooba-dude (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/17/2009 16:32

wow! Very good work here, especially for your first this size, I would have liked to see the characters though....6/8

blue (Level 2 Peon) @ 1/17/2009 11:12
Those silhouetted trees in the background might be my favorite part...they remind me of trees in Savannah dripping with Spanish moss..

The clouds are also gorgeous, very puffy and happy.

AdamF (Level 11 CEO) @ 1/17/2009 10:29
Very pretty! I agree with Elk, the grass is too diagonal but I wouldn't worry about it, it's great anyway =D

Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 1/17/2009 09:03
Very very good ambience :) grass has a too diagonal pattern, tree could be m ore organic but nice

Paulo Peres (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/17/2009 09:02
Very cool, man!

I liked so much the style.

vierbit (Level 2 Recycling) @ 1/17/2009 08:46
Very Nice. Great design and colors.

ohnoimnaked (Level 2 Peon) @ 1/17/2009 07:53
I love it! The style is great, and it really has a great vibe to it. The color choice is superb as well, and I kind of feel like I could just fall into this mystical land! Great!

Loaf2000 (Level 4 Deputy) @ 1/17/2009 06:51
this has a lot of style. very well done.

Eldboll (Level 4 Murderer) @ 1/17/2009 05:36
Amazing for being your first go at this.
I'm not that thrilled about the diagonally grass thing, but other then that, thumbs up. Oh, and that tree is one sexy tree.

Keep it up!

Jiang (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 1/17/2009 05:06
Very beautiful!!!

Nessiah (Level 4 Gas Giant) @ 1/17/2009 03:05
I really love the colors *o*

TomF (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 1/17/2009 02:40
This is just lovely! I love the greens you use, they make for a very lush scene. Also really enjoying the patterns and textures. Good work. :)

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 1/17/2009 02:16
First attempt? That is really great!
I have attempt it so many times, and never had something so good I wanted to submit it :(.
The swirly tree is very original and funny, and it matches great with the swirly rock and the diagonal stones.
The grass is great (also nice because of its diagonally style thing) and gets way more interesting because of the white 'flowers'!.
The layered trees are cool too, things often get darker in the distance, but because of the open setting and the bright sky, this really feels perfect!

The only thing that I do not like too much, are the large leaves, grass, plants, whatever it is. I would have done a bit less of it, and also some medium size vegetation.
Conclusion: I like it a lot :D

KwIjL (Level 5 Captain) @ 1/17/2009 01:46
