Oh, so that's what they call pillow shading... cool, I didn't know they had a term for that.

I'm afraid that this has a terrible case of pillow shading.  Your shading shouldn't just be progressively lighter colors following the shape of the outline; it needs to convey actual form.  It's important that you actually think about how light would hit our dearly beloved electric rodent.  You should also probably take a look at anti-aliasing; I don't know any good tutorials off the top of my head, but there are almost certainly some good ones on the PJ forums, as well as over at Pixelation.

Edit: uh, yeah, PixelArg's edit deals with a lot of that; look at what he did.

I just meant he could take the shading without losing the recognisable pikachu color scheme. It's up to Tipleloop to use whatever he thinks is best.

Nice pikachu xD I like it!

While the shading in Pixlarg's edit is an improvement - the colors are screwy. Pikachu shouldn't have purple shadows. Also must have red cheecks and Dark brown for stripes. Using low color count is not better if you lose important information.

A good guide would be to look at the pallete they use for pikachu in the games.

Yeah, 15 colors is too much. Even if you used 235 on that one... This pikachu could have been done with 6-8 and would be as good as it is, maybe even better.
