After 10 year, this color selection is still a mastery.
THIS IS HELLA !!!! and wow your friends art is gorgeous as well !!
The blue-yellow-green contrast is beautiful, love the whole scene, worth every second you poured in and more
it reminds me of inkheart XD
but its really good :3
Great concept, great execution. The crazy contrast of her dress and the dragon is really working for me. I like the details too, it makes me want to look at it.
I love how you've carefully applied the patterns on her dress and stripes on the dragon!
Wonderful design and also very finely crafted.
I saw some tutorials/explanations of pieces on your website. Wonder what they are about?
Thank you for your edit, Sharprm.
I drew the books which shared colors with dragon because I want to use a minimum palette and there are no other good supersaturated colors in this palette. If I used supersaturated blue or yellow for the book, it's too repetitious.
And I wanted to describe the impressive contrast between yellow of the cloth and blue stocking,if it sacrificed the depth. But I should have to draw the contrast 3-dementionally.
I completely agree with you about the books behind the girl. I made a mistake to choice the colors.
I did an edit maybe it is clearer with bright colors for books. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e199/sharprm/dragon-1.png
edit: I think my idea behind the edit is that the colors indicate depth. eg. yellow part of dress greater than blue part greater than orange part. So by having blue stockings, it mucks up the depth since there is orange above it. It is better to have purple stockings. Now the books are behind the girl so they shouldn't be yellow or red. They could be orange, purple or possibly blue. The ribbon tied around the yellow dress I changed from blue to red, because it is above the dress (but blue isn't).
Not sure if it looks better or makes any sense ...
You're completely missing the point people are trying to make here: Sure, this piece displays both technical and artistic merits - but there is a lot of art on PJ, superior in both aspects, that has not been blessed with nearly as many 'favorites'. So the only conclusion that I can make (not just judging by this piece); is that schoolgirl-taste is a prevaling as well as suspicious trait amongst many PJ members.
And for the highest-rated art: These are (almost) all made in the old days when men were still men...and the unbalanced rating system and incessant promotion of high-score pieces has (for better or worse) kept these on top, despite the assault of manga-fetischists, hehe!
I don't think the majority here has the taste of 11-year old schoolgirls. Most of the work around here is judged from a technical viewpoint rather than from an artistic one. Therefore the votes were quite high here since this piece is given the chosen style well done. Of course its not only the technical aspect that makes a vote for everyone around here, but it has a much higher vote than if a bunch of people would rate art in a gallery.
Also its strange that you seem to expect that the mass likes great art. In most cases popular art among those who dont spend a great amount of time with art itself is just as good as popular music among those who dont spend much time with the theories behind and history of music.
If you look through the highest rated pixel art the majority of pieces is technicaly very well done and not girly (there are a few exceptions, but really they are the minority), so I really dont get your point.
I wonder what it would look like with new colors for the books and headband. Maybe new color for stocking also. I just feel like there are three areas (dragon, dress, other) and they shouldn't mix colors. I should try edit but I'm too lazy.
Its a cool design (poor dragon gets notes written on it) I just think its bit too complicated because books share color with dragon. I think the books should be supersaturated colors. also is the dragon missing an arm.
btw I think drawing like a girl is harder than you think Dawnbringer! Design becomes very important. I tried aping cute style once and it wasn't pretty.
Whoops. I seem to have started a little unrest here. Maybe should try doing a few pink unicorns, Dawnbringer. I've never been one to really understand art, but this piece doesn't stand out for me like it does for others. I'm more of the guy who looks for dead on balls accuracy and less unorthodox flair.
No, but when the majority seem to have the taste of 11-year old schoolgirls it makes you wonder!...maybe I should start drawing pink unicorns?
Is it only the right place for you if everyone has the same opinion on every piece here?
Too busy. Too flat. Too cute. Sure, Syosa have some skills...but I can't understand how people can be all crazy about this piece? It's far from the classic pixel-tradition I love (it looks more like vector-gfx to me). Maybe Pixeljoint is not the place for me, hmm?
I can see what you guys can see in its flatness, which I did too, but I found this to be all about patterns and figured Syosa was working on some kind of experiment since obviosly depth is not a problem with his/her art. It almost has a Slavic sensibility drawn in a Chinese way.
agreeing with inq here. I know I've already commented, but I just don't think this is as amazing as everyone's making it out to be :| it's not bad, but I've seen many better things that didn't aquire this many favs :/
This one actually looks a bit flat to me, Syosa. I dunno if that was intentional but I'm finding it difficult to get my head around. The design is funky though.
:OOOO i didnt saw thisone :OOO amaziiing :DDD i specially likes the dragon/mount. Really good as always :DDD
All comments are useful for me, thank you so much.
I'll try to modify shade of the dragon face, the obscure desk and the busy dress.
great and serious comments here, its a good help, fav, but is true i agree with WiZkiD
agreeing with bab, looks alright, but it's really busy and some details are hard to make out.
Amazing sprite indeed, but I agree with Doppleganger and Manupix.
nice! very colorful, love the "pixelized" ( ^^ ) violett flowers, also the clothes texture is awesome
Yesss! As usual, very beautiful and touching. Fav'd!
I agree with Doppleg though, it's a bit difficult to read because of all the nice but conflicting textures, and/or too little shading. The dragon's head looks a bit flat, too.
really cool! You've got an amazingly cute and personalized style. Remdinds me a lot fo Amano's illustrations at times.
I think it is a bit hard to read the desk, paper and harness in the area in front of the girl. I'm not sure how to go about addressing that, but using the shadows to bring out and seperate the areas would probably help.
omgomgomgogmogmomgomgomgomgomg.
This sprite evokes amazingness. I absolutely adore it.
When are you going to make something bad? You're long overdue. I don't think there's a single bad thing in your gallery.
For shame.
Also, 7/7
Amazing, I love the idea/title and how well you've done the colors.
very good
