If you work with Photoshop, then animate with ImageReady (unless you have the latest versions, CS3 or 4).
First make a layerd psd file with all your frames in Photoshop; then open it in IR (by clicking that funny button at the bottom of your Photoshop tools palette). I can't explain everything about IR rightaway, see the help. Basically, you have to create frames in the 'animation' palette, by making each layer visible in turn in the 'layers' palette. Then you can set the timing for each frame, they don't even have to be all similar.
Then check color options ('personalized') and 'transparency' in the Optimisation palette; then File/Save an optimised copy as... (not just Save an optimised copy or Save as). Then also Save (just Save) the psd file before closing it: this will save all your animation options within it, in case you want to make a new anim from the same file someday.
Tool and menu names are translated from French: sorry if they're not exactly as I say.
Thanks everybody for checking out my first attemtp @ pixel animation

I'd like to see a wip. Sorry, but there are too many stray pixels in some funny places.
That's incredibly smooth. It looks likes 3D. How many frames is this?
"you spin my head right round right round when your going down when your going down,down..."
makes me dizzy too,but i think the animation is too fast,it could be much nicer if you'll make it a little slower..:]
this character make me dizzy but is a great animation
LOL! Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" popped into my head when I saw this.
A bit too fast for me :)
