On the art:
I like the idea. However, I agree with the users below that the cook isn't readable as one, more like a chamber maid. But I guess it can pass a cook. Glad to see the changes with the arm were changed as well.
On the topic of color reducing:
I still can't believe you're going on about this subject. If you ask me, you INITIATED the argument with the user below over the pixel art method vs. result debate, in your description. I'll agree in the past, mods have sent back pieces that were drawn by the user and color reduced, with some pixel art quality( I know you have been victim of this in the past, I'm not an idiot).
I DON'T agree with this, and our CURRENT mod team does not either. What we are against, are people who STEAL other peoples art, and then color reduce it. This is a big no-no, and is almost bannable, when we feel the need to do so. Also, if a user does decide to draw something COMPLETELY ON THEIR OWN, and color reduce it, we will be a bit critical with it, to make sure that the piece itself exhibits a pixel art quality and detail, in hopes that all or majority of previous hand drawn traits are removed from it. If we feel the piece itself has lost a pixel art quality, then we WILL remove it or send back for revision.
And sometimes, it's not a matter of it being pixel art or not, it's just a matter of GALLERY quality, that will determine if the piece is ok to go in or out. I apologize that your opinion clashes with that of the mods of Pixelation, or some of it's members and the "status quo" they hold. I personally don't have a problem with it, as they've helped shape up some great pixel artists. Also bear in mind, this is Pixeljoint's opinion over what we WANT pixel art to be, not the Omega, super duper, final decision or definition of pixel art. Like any other gallery, we have a quality to maintain, and have the right to decide if submitted pieces will or will not hurt it as a whole.
If you feel the need to expand on this(which I'm sure you do, as you haven't stopped beating this dead horse issue since it began), then please take the rest of it up with the mod team, and leave the gallery and it's comments directly related to the art itself, as to not derail the constructive critisism, should it be given.
Wait, what are your facts? You don't have any, just an ill thought out opinion. How come you know what the majority think? You don't, you just like to think you do. Go start a thread and find out.
On topic, I used dithering to suggest texture and transparency. The thing I still can't pull off is that thing where you use two grey pixels to suggest a black pixel between those two grey pixels. Next time maybe.
lol no i didn't
but it isn't pretentious. It is an actual art form that the majority of the people who post here respect, which means that the art that they are creating adheres to the guidelines that have been presented. It goes back to the very idea or definition of art, from which point it could only be classified into segments or different sections. You just so happen to be butting your head against a wall, and I thought the joke is that you were joking.
If you have a problem with this idea, you could be painting on a canvas and showing your work in a gallery, perhaps? I mean, they have rules as well, as far as classification goes, but it isn't as strict as an entire website of artists who have dedicated themselves to one ideal or art form, you know? I don't mean to come across as rude, I am just stating the facts. =]
If you like 'em then you like cheating. Like I said, go start a topic in the forum if you have a well thought out opinion and wish to change the status quo. Btw, back when I was a kid there wasn't this pretentious name 'pixel art' - maybe people then realised there is more to something than a brandname.
Back on topic I changed the arm back to being hairy and fat. You can compare them by looking at the preview. I just felt it was important that the postman is clearly a man and fat. Not sure if it helps the joke or hurts it (eg. shifting focus away from girl) but the arm was hairy in the original so I think I should stick with it.
edit: ohnoimnaked changed his mind, again.
so this means that your art isn't made pixel by pixel? Like, PIXEL art?
you are a cheater. unless the joke was that you were pooring something out in form of a joke in words and it co-related to your picture in some way?
I mean, you are a good artist, but idk if you would be considered a pixel artist at this point?
either way, I like the picture. And I still like the snoop dog picture.
I made some changes based on your advice. Glad you like the joke.
I just have two problems with this. The guy's arm looks obese and has creases in it. I think just making his arm a bit thinner and going the safe route of having no defining features on it would make it look a lot better, and match the simplistic style of the piece. The bag also looks a bit weird. The bag almost looks like an octagon rather than something circular.
The art is good and the joke made me lol.
Its not a literal professional cook but rather a sexist way to denote a bride. If anyone has painter questions just pm me.
Is cook another word for bride? Coz she don't look much like any cook I've ever seen :) But the picture itself is very clean & nice.
You seem to have some strong feelings here, hehe!! Is Painter (Corel right?) something you use often? Well, as long as creations maintain a good "pixel-integrity" it's not the end-of-the-world if a 24bit-tool has been used at some time...but then again, palette design & usage is an integral part of pixelart. Does Painter support indexed palettes?
thx manupix.

The opposite view was expressed by two people in that thread. If it is not refuted, more people will accept it, until eventually I will have to delete many of my pieces for no good reason. You are maybe right that expressing this view complicates a competition piece so I will stop discussing!
Who likes three fingered hands?
Haha! Hilarious and excellent! This mail is better than anything the postman ever brought me...
Yes, as far as I know you can enter multiple works (I'm no mod though).
I personally agree to your definition of PA, nevertheless it might be difficult to explain to people who would do the same without the necessary skill for pixel-level control, and whose art would be rejected. Dunno...
And, is it really wise to use this space to defend your views, however legitimate?
Aren't you throwing frozen stones into hell's broth here? ;-D
Its supposed to be readable as a bride. A mail order bride. In the mail. (should have used a better ref for the viel hat thing )
I appreciate you taking the time to give the official position B.O.B I agree with what you said. I definately initiated beating the horse because it looked like it was a zombie to me. Jalanso's pm:
"If hybrids are in the gallery then that just means they haven't been caugh yet. A piece may be sent back at any time if a problem is found.
*Really, if you have impure PAs in your gallery please consider deleting these yourself, k."
btw this pic was actually 100% done in graphics gale but based on a paper sketch though not scanned (the point being again that you can't tell between 100% pixelled and reduced but repixelled). So it really is off topic. :)
