From the Tex Avery cartoons.  Red was drawn in a style that is very close to my heart and not too far off from my own.

The outlines for this were sitting around on my computer for a couple of days before I finally got around to coloring... which I decided to do all in one night. =/  There's a lot of things I'm unhappy with, but I'm so done with working on this. XD

Used several images of Red as reference, primarly this one.

Meant for a white background.

Big Brother: If you know it's going to sound harsh, I would suggest you reword it rather than appologize for what you're saying. And I would think the piece would have more personality if you revive it in an original manner, not straight-up copy the reference. I fail to see how using altered lines makes the entire image a failure.

Personally, Aeri, I like you're version better. Her head isn't as awkwardly shaped. Yay! I don't like the white outlining, though. LET YOU'RE EDGES BE FREE AND PIXELY, AERI. LET THEM BE FREE.

We should work on our palette skills together.

Wow.  Well, I agree with you that her original design is more pleasing than my pixeled version, but my intention wasn't to copy the style in which she was drawn, but to put her into my own.  It would be no fun for me if I didn't put my own spin on it.  Apparently my spin made her more generic, but to each their own. X)

It's hard to compete with the reference. The colors look good and you've obviously invested in the technique, but the linework pales in comparison to the original.

Notice how you've smoothed out all the quirks that made the first one visually specific and artistically appealing. Look at the shape of the eyes and some of the pleasing proportions: the head is approximately 2/3 hair, 1/3 face with the features wrapping around the construction of the geometry. The details are minimalistic, but will spend the occasional frivolity describing the curve of a kneecap or the ruffles on the edge of her dress.

You've lost the personality in yours, which tends to look more generic. I'm really not trying to sound harsh here!

Since I'm sure you don't want to have to change the bulk of these lovely pixels, you could maybe do some little things to improve this piece. For instance, you can add darkened bluish tints under the outer fold of the dress. It would help give this a little more depth. I'd also darken the flesh tone you use to outline the skin of the figure.

Manupix - I wanted to use the pose from the ref pic and put it into my style, which, as I said in the comments, is very similar to the style she was drawn in, but looking at the ref pic again... it did end up very similar. -_-

Flarfy - Thanks a ton for the cc.  Palettes... well, I suck at them. XD  I'll keep your comments in mind.

jamesmorrow07 - Lol, I was thinking Marilyn when I was working on her.  Thanks. :)

KingOfTheTrolls - Thank you. :)

Very good shading. Very good lines too, but a bit too close to the ref for my taste ;)

Nice palette, but you might recycle colors throughout the piece. For instance, the darkest skin tone could probably be replaced by one of the hair tones.

I love this one. The pose and expression is just great. I do however feel that you could have used the colors a bit better. Especially on the skin tones. There are a lot of mid tones that could be dropped. Using few colors is not a goal in itself, but it can often make it seem more living. Basically your pix has three colors: Red, blue and skin. Each could probably do with just 3-4 different tones. Consider choosing tones with greater contrasts too, or it might end up a little "flat".

Kinda reminds me of Jessica Rabbit and Marilyn Monroe with a little bit of "I Love Lucy" put together. This really has some nostalgic charm to it. I like it.
