I love this one! The textures remind me a lot of some Sega Genesis\Mega Drive games. Also, if anything else, this should win because it's the best entry with an underwater level, and not an underwater game.
So amazing and great, this was instant love. The graphic stylee is so charming yet realistic in a wonderful way.
Only thing I don't like is that the fishes is bright blue. The black backround is not bad at all imo, gives the deep abyss creepy feeling.
Just love the "deep sea" feel of this, which no one else did I might add.
Hooooooly crap... insta-win
Jeez that's insane. Absolutely perfect use of the palette.
I could definitely see the inspiration from Donkey Kong Country the second if opened this image.
Hey, thanks guys!
@Benevolent: If you check my WIPs for the longest time I had attempted to get stuff going on in the background. I just kept running into readability issues. A few more colors and it might have been a possibility, but at least this way it's well defined.
@The Fry Bat: Essentially it came down to either using red or black as the background. Red was quite interesting, but a totally different atmosphere. And thanks for the support! Max appreciates it.
The only problem I can see here is the excessively detailed background distracts me from the rest of the piece . Pretty awesome
challenge winner. I love how artisitc it is but still looks like a game. Doesn't look tiles either which is a plus
Haha, this is great. You have a very unique style and did something really different with the theme and the palette. Props.
And personally the empty background works for me... it's a pretty busy foreground after all.
#$%@ it freaks me out! this is weard! possibly this is the only tipe of style like this in pixeljoint!
Great job on this one, love the sea vegetation. Nice little "9 lives" add.
This transcends amazing so damned hard, I don't even know where to begin.
Most obviously, nothing is more refreshing than seeing an artist render a piece under a limited palette as though they were controlling the restrictions, and not the other way around. The details here are intricate and stunning. Although I agree with Benevolent, that black background sucks all those details up like a vaccum, which wouldn't be an issue if it were spruced up with a few more colors.
By the way, I love the story behind this mockup. I'd buy the game if it were on the market. :P
Holy carp! that is so detailed only thing i don't like is that there is no creative background to go with this awesome foreground.
Why it's not a winner?
