Congratulations for the 3 place ;D , hope to see you in the next challenge!
Heh ! Didn't even thought it was yours. Great work ! You really improved, hope to see some more works soon ;)
Very stylish. Especially like the clouds.
Only crit is that the facial features look western.
The building is perfect, and i can feel the wind, also i love the hair. Great job!
@snowk See my comment response to Gecimen , and thanks mate!
amazingfacial and neck shading. love the stylish clouds and the rest of the bg as well. now how about some pupis on those eyes, hmm?
A lot of details in here, nice stuff mate! I didn't read Vagabond yet but I'll do it sooner or later, I've always been interested in Musashi's legend :)
Well, he did say "inspired" instead "photocopied in pixels." :P
Jk, jk. Very nice piece! Fantastic use of the palette. :)
very well done. also it reminds me of wolverine comics where he's dressed in his samurai type gear and has his hair tied back like that. really lovely use of the palette too. can see this being a definite vote by me.
@Reo and Vrizoud I completely agree that a samurai can be represented with a western look, but the Vagabond character is drawn (almost 100% as far as I know) with a Japanese face.
agree with Badassbill... it seems a japanese version of Eastwood... but you know... that's cool XD
Great work...
I knew this palette had lots of potential, many ways to use it . Your shading immediately reminded me of the webcomic Return To Sender (inked in black, using light blue for shading)
About the character not looking asian : heroic-type Ronin have as much rights as heroic-type Ninja as being portreyed by caucasian people. And tell me honestly, would you wear the "real" haircut ?
I know what you're thinking. "Did he sharpen his sword today?" :)
Nice one and stylish background.
No need to edit :) I saw the squint instantly! Lovely work!
@Gecimen: You're misreading the eyes, the white is a highlight on the eyelid-thingy, I was afraid of this, might go back and edit it later for clarification.
Also not all manga look the same Vagabond(which inspired this) has a more realistic style http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cf/Vagabond21.jpg ,manga is simply the japanese word for comic, It doesn't require a certain style.
@Bab: sure why not, there is several links between Eastwood and samurai, let's call it a clever reference by me :D
Great facial expression. I personaly like the clouds / sky very much
There are some issues with the eyes. The space below the eye is white but it should be darker (or does he have white eyes?) Also his eyes, face and hair doesn't look Japanese or manga style.
It was part of a weekly challenge. You can press the link next to little ribbon under the description to see other samurai pieces from that challenge.
