I was looking through some archived graphics of mine and came across this background I made for some game ages ago. The colors were a bit washed out so I tweaked them. The actual image is 150x600 and was meant to tile indefinitely- hence the repeated image.

Haven't posted something 'new' in funkin' ages so I thought I'd hop on the opportunity to post this. My past self had gone through the lengths to make a preview icon for this image, but for some reason didn't post it. You can see evidence of the original colors in the preview icon.

This is beautiful! I love The vegetation on the log.

Jetrel (Level 1 Intern) @ 11/7/2011 03:52

I remember watching this thread on pixelation;  this really needs some love.  Brilliant work.

TheoVision (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/20/2011 23:06

Insane leaves you pixeled here... Great tiles!

KrypToniTe (Level 5 Soldier) @ 12/24/2010 18:21

It looks too much of a copy-paste. Meaby flip some of those trees and leaves to make it look more natural?

Biffo (Level 1 Rookie) @ 12/22/2010 10:56

Very Nice.  I love Maurice Sendak, and I love this.  And BTW for a tiling background that's not supposed to be the focus anyway,  I think the saturation, and contrast are perfect.

Jaker Pot (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 12/16/2010 08:26

Guh! It's awesome, but it needs contrast! :D

Doppleganger (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 11/14/2010 11:42

Thanks for the c & c, guys!

I don't think the game was ever released. Somewhere along the way I lost touch with the progress. But I've never heard or seen anything about it since.

I agree with the contrast and saturation issues, and I'll probably revisit that as I notice on one of my monitors it is a lot more bleak and muddled than the other. As for the tiling line, I definitely noticed how prevalent it was and even considered mentioning it in my description. I decided to leave it as it was, because if I were to go back and fix that up I would probably end up fixing a lot more issues than just that. That was something I wasn't prepared to do, however.

The thread where you were posting these backgrounds was literally the first one I saw when I came to pixelation.  I had until that point spent most of my time in communities where the average skill level was relatively low (me especially included), and that thread totally blew me away and was a big source of inspiration.  This brings back really good memories!  Did the game ever end up happening?

Carnivac (Level 8 Behemoth) @ 11/14/2010 04:25

It's nice but it's so low saturated that I can't look at it for long without my eyes going a bit weird.  Also I think a contrast increase could benefit the back trees and further back too as it all looks really flat there where it should have the most depth of all.

TheInquisitor (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 11/14/2010 04:20

Very nice as always, Dop. I like your less-is-more approach to pixelling. I think it works well because you're such a natural with palettes.

Only downside is that the tiling line is very obvious on the trees and rocks in particular.

AdamPlays (Level 6 SWAT) @ 11/12/2010 16:10

Looks great, although I can see the line where you tiled it.  (You can tell because the tuft of leaves near the crotch are cut off on the left side, and if you follow down the rocks have a similar problem.)

Nice job, but I dont know why it makes mine eyes burn.

Stickman (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 11/12/2010 08:31

Forestry work is very nice indeed.

Clovvach (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 11/12/2010 06:37

I really like the image! It so cool.

However, I think you should increase the contrast!

Cilein (Level 5 Irish Elk) @ 11/12/2010 06:10

Oh woaw, great depth and detail, what became of the game? If it all matched this par it'd be pretty noteworthy!

Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 11/12/2010 04:20

Orgasmic leaves.

jeremy (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 11/12/2010 00:38

I remember reading the Pixelation thread way back :)

Pixelling is fantastic as usual, though I still think you didn't push saturation enough ;P

SpaceSalmon (Level 1 Rookie) @ 11/12/2010 00:32

This is really nice! I love those leaves, the forest is awesome!  I don't know about the grass. But damn man... 5/5
