Who needs Mario Brothers when you can play as barbarian princesses? In a fantasy world WITH GUNS!

I kept the playfield background area empty to emphasize the silhouettes of the sprites for enhanced "in-game" readability.

There are three hills in a vertical row on each side of the screen, comprised of two hill types. I scaled them down, cleaned them up, and arranged them so the same type doesn't appear twice in a row. It could lead to a cool scrolling effect.

The soundtrack would be prog rock, of course.

jok (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 1/21/2017 09:43

really nice mockup

-DE- (Level 11 General) @ 5/19/2015 23:38

I dig it!

ZacRay (Level 1 Gangster) @ 8/27/2012 13:09

Kudos on the open area. May go against normal pixel art thinking but I've seen many awesome looking mockups that just had too much visual nfo onscreen at once. There is obviously a big difference between static aesthetics and "holy crap" speed. Guess it just depends on how true you are being to the mockup concept as more will probably win out over less around here most often.

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 8/28/2011 15:51

I suppose those skeletons would be hard to kill with guns?

(No need to say how great this is right?)

furansu (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 4/10/2011 08:14

Whoa, you rock! I love the color palette and the character design.

Scruffs (Level 7 Assassin) @ 3/16/2011 19:46

absolutely beautiful. art like this makes me want to start pixeling.

marcinho569 (Level 1 Rookie) @ 2/15/2011 15:39

RodrigoCard (Level 2 Kukyu) @ 2/14/2011 16:43

I wish this is a real game :O

Jo (Level 9 Nidan) @ 2/14/2011 06:15

Damn, I was getting used to never playing those cool-ass mockups. Until you got to the soundtrack part, you bastard!

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 2/11/2011 21:30

wouldn't a barbaric princess use a more barbaric firearm, like a combat shotgun for example?

zi-double (Level 9 Necrophiliac) @ 2/11/2011 08:36

I like how you pass from the grass through the mountain and finish with sky, because here they work very well together.

TomF (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 2/11/2011 07:24

You have such a clean and smooth rendering style. It's very aesthetically pleasing. Darn you.

Morgengrauen (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 2/11/2011 05:08

the preview really doesn't fit, and it looks like Sun-Tasy ;-)

TheInquisitor (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 2/11/2011 04:44

I love the purple shades of the mountains. I love everything about the piece, as per usual, but those stand out. Your palette choice always seems so natural.

The necromancer looks like a great villain design. I like the way that instead of using a blacked out hooded face you've instead made it equally unclear in white.

Should there perhaps be some reflected light on the ground where the skeleton is getting up?

jamon (Level 10 Operative) @ 2/11/2011 02:39

wow! love it! colors...  characters shadows... nice details... fav!

jeremy (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 2/11/2011 02:30

The mountains and colour blending are unmistakeably yours :D

Only thing I don't like is the green. Bit chalky almost.

maybe someting like this

Stickman (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 2/10/2011 15:29

Good piece! Also glad you did a nicer preview.

dpixel (Level 9 Vice President) @ 2/10/2011 08:23

I will second that Sticky!

Argyle (Level 6 Manager) @ 2/10/2011 06:41

Love it.  My favorite part about most of your pieces, aside from your gorgeous color choices, smooth rendering, and almost-cartoonish-almost not style, is the way you generously favor the waist region of your female characters.

Mathias (Level 6 Garbage) @ 2/10/2011 02:15

WHEW that bg!

dpixel (Level 9 Vice President) @ 2/9/2011 10:32

Absolutely love the sprites.  I can really learn something from this.  I think this is one of my all-time favs.

EDIT:  Needs a better preview though.

TheoVision (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 2/9/2011 08:00

Crisp color use!

Gecimen (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 2/8/2011 17:08

Bg is amazing.

RollerKingdom (Level 7 Mass Murderer) @ 2/8/2011 15:02

wow amazing palette and mood this piece has :)

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 2/8/2011 14:53

I didn't think so but thought I'd ask to be safe :)

dumbo (Level 4 Mercenary) @ 2/8/2011 14:22

This is truly nice work!

Reo (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 2/8/2011 14:08

Oh you and your genious rendering ability!

big brother (Level 11 Admiral) @ 2/8/2011 13:58

Nope, this isn't for the challenge. It's a third person shooter/beat-em-up like NAM-1975, Wild Guns, or the tunnel sequences in Contra.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 2/8/2011 13:11

...cuz, you can't judge art by the previews o.O

This isn't for weekly challenge, right?

Satsume (Level 10 Capo) @ 2/8/2011 13:04

amazing work X3

Fouzzi (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/8/2011 12:52

Very cool.

Delicious (Level 10 Capo) @ 2/8/2011 12:40

This is really cool. I like your clouds and how your sprites contrast from the background because they're so crisp.
