I don't think you care anymore about this piece, but yeah, I think there are clusters missing and the colors ruin the potential of this piece. EDIT:
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. That WIP. I had no idea this much work goes into pieces like this, because everything looks so cohesive and blends in.
So awesome... the eggs are just plain creepy.
Just watched your WIP. Wow.
Wow! Very nice... not quite sure what the hell the monster IS exactly, but it's awesome nonetheless. 5/5 and faved!
You have a remarkable sense of color and texture. If this is your first large piece, I can't wait to see what you produce as you become more experienced--I'm sure I speak for many on Pixel Joint when I say that. Welcome!
Gotta love the sheer epicness!
The part that I really don't like is the tail that goes back into the tunnel, and the balls do not actually look like they are emitting light.
Still a very formidable first piece! Welcome to PJ.
@cure: As I started with this I didn't know about AA and other things but I added them later and overworked huge parts more than once. I guess I forgot some lines and I wasn't really sure about the spike's AA.
Your critique helps a lot and I have to say that I really admire you for your huge amount of experience.
According to the human I wanted to show the big contrast between the mighty creature and the weak scientiest. I wanted to give him a pathetic look. I don't ever tried this before and hoped it works. I am sure there is a better way to do it but if I am thinking about doing things better there is always a point somebody can improve :)
@SatTheArtist: It's like Kaiseto said. I had some breaks and worked on it if it seemed to make fun. But it's not only work in the shadering, there is also lots of work in the concept itself. I don't know how long it took exactly but more than 200h
@Jeremy: thanks for the welcome
It was a huge effort to make the lighting. Usual there aren't more than 1 or 2 light sources, here I used about 8 main lighting sources and some others. the hardest thing was to difference the soft light of the eggs and the flickering light of the torch so I am happy that you recommended it.
@TheoVision: You are really great with your real looking pixel pieces - I admire them a lot and so it's great to hear words like this from you.
Maybe the creature seems a little bit confusing to you because you have never seen something like that before. This creature is huge, has an original anatomy and it isn't the brightest place - really hard to get it at first sight.
I'll try to help you to get the right idea how it works. The eye is placed at the tongue, the tongue comes out of the mouth. the head is nearly central placed.
You can also see the neck musculature there. The first spike you see (between the arms) is the breast bone. The chest is open and you can take a look at the innerts. the spine is bent and the tail ends hidden behind the rocks in the upper-left corner.
The ribs are stronger curved than the tail bones. The ischium is between the legs and placed a little bit over the central egg.
Whoa Thomas, this is impressive! You really master textures, color use and composition. However I agree with Cure that the creature is a bit confusing (I litterly can not make heads or tails of it).
However, this is Monthly Top 10 material, an instant fav, and 6/6 rating!
Rocks are great, the globes' different lighting works well too.
Welcome :D
@SatTheArtist
When you start getting into big pieces, you can spend over 100 hours on a piece. I know I did, once. You might spend several hours a day for a week, then take a break, etc, and by the time you're done it's taken several months. It's definitely not outside the realm of possibility.
Holy crap! That is amazing. 5 months seems REALLY long to work on something, what'd you do, work on it 10 mins a day or somethin?
Gigantic awesome-ness ;D
anatomy on the human is a bit rough, and some areas could use more aa (like the lit spikes on the left), but other than that and the aforementioned cluttered composition, this is really nice. the amount of time spent is evident and commendable.
The amount of time and effort in this piece really shows. Nice!
A bit cluttered though..
Really cool- composition is cluttered but it has some great technique!
RUN DUDE RUN
Also, I KNEW this style seemed familiar, welcome Cyang! :D
This is pretty darn brilliant! No idea why it got relatively ignored.
