This is a cutaway of an orbital cabin used by the player in my upcoming game 'The Salvage'.  The look of the cabin was to be a conglomeration of parts, cobbled together into a functional yet chaotic construct.  For game purposes, this will act as a sort of home base for the player, where he/she plots new exploration and dig sites, manages loans and finance, and selects equipment kits for sorties onto the planet below.

The cabin was based off of this concept sketch:

I worked out some of the ideas for how I wanted the interior to feel with this:

You can view an alternate version of the pixel art, identical to what I've posted here in pixeljoint, except it includes a mockup of the holographic display in action.  I omitted it from the pixeljoint submission because it uses layer effects:

*I have placed the sprite of the main character in the piece mostly for scale and palette reference.

 Very nice work

Really interesting piece.

Wow. Instant fave.

eyadan (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/17/2011 08:19

wow! awesome!

Souly (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 4/16/2011 06:23

You should just avoid 1x1 dithering in general, because the 1x1 pixel pattern is just not helping some parts of this piece. Just makes the top part in the middle look very flat to me.

Schoq (Level 5 Soldier) @ 4/15/2011 07:32

I second that it's very nice overall, but would greatly benefit from some actual attention to how pixels interact on the, eh, pixel-level (pixel banding in particular is hurting this piece a lot). It's something that has bothered me when seeing your art on TIGS, and it's really a shame since it has so much potential.

Looking forward to more from you.

I really love the attention to the details here! This is really neat stuff you got going on here.

onek (Level 6 Hitman) @ 4/13/2011 15:26

i like ur concept sketches but the pixelwork isnt doing it for me :(

Theoden (Level 9 Federal Agent) @ 4/13/2011 12:08

This is really amazing, very inspiring.

epoxy (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/13/2011 09:18

Whoa. Mind blown. I like the organic-looking elements with junk attached (the opposite of many space shoot-em-ups in which machines are overgrown with organics).

avo (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 4/13/2011 07:58

very cool thing!

SacreDoom (Level 2 Dealer) @ 4/13/2011 06:09

 inb4 weekly showcase btw.

Gecimen (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 4/13/2011 02:52

Fucking amazing! 7/7 with a bonus for the coloring that reminds me of 90s games such as Flashback.

TheoVision (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 4/13/2011 02:28

This looks really cool! 7/7!

yrizoud (Level 6 Aquamarine) @ 4/13/2011 02:21

It's a pity that it loses some of the subtle shading of the concept paintings. There are some clearly distinct ramps, and no colors that bridges them, so some elements just seem "pasted", out-of-place. For example, the cylinder hanging above the character.

SacreDoom (Level 2 Dealer) @ 4/13/2011 01:12

While the lines're great, I have to agree with Atomic Mushroom, the colouring is terrible some places.

Otherwise great work. 4/5

AtomicMushroom (Level 4 Button Man) @ 4/12/2011 18:45

The art itself is great, but the pixel tech is definitely lacking. First thing that jumped out at me is the banding, but there are other issues such as unnecessary dithering, noisy pixel clusters, and  lack of AA. I would suggest looking through this thread:  (Pixelation is also a great place for critique).

Jv's (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/12/2011 18:15

 Nossa muito bom !!

colorlemon (Level 2 Dealer) @ 4/12/2011 18:13

wow! it's so cool~

Sippy_Cup (Level 5 Trash) @ 4/12/2011 18:03

i love your characters suit, err mech suit? such an elegant design. great pixel work!

Drazelic (Level 8 Partner) @ 4/12/2011 17:27

Impressive, but the background is hard to distinguish from the foreground. Really nice detail though!

Xamllew (Level 3 Chief) @ 4/12/2011 17:01

This game sounds amazing. Can't wait to play it.

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 4/12/2011 16:50

a proper scrolling system needs to be implemented along the zooming function. besides that(wich is something site-side and has nothing to do with the work itself)

pixels were shat.

MCSuire (Level 1 Intern) @ 4/12/2011 16:49

All I can say is wow.

yrizoud (Level 6 Aquamarine) @ 4/12/2011 16:06
