Thanks Gecimen.
I don't know, jalonso asks for a rating and a vote without any backfire ( http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/64395.htm )
I think I'm a little tired/disappointed with the community, but I will be back as soon as I have more time.
I think this deserved to win the 1st or 2nd place in the challenge but the 'vote for me' quote might have backfired.
Amazing how this didn't place in the weekly challenge but got in the monthly top.
Congratulations.
Just saw this one! Thank you Mirre, and I'll get on with correcting the antialiasing, I hadn't even noticed. Thanks again!
Magical! ; D I really like the concept and I agree that we need more western steampunk! The dithering techniques you have used here are excellent. I also think you have used contrast cleverly here - like the sunset against her legs and the glow from the magic distinguishing her arms and body. I do think that the antialiasing could be improved in a couple of places though; like on the outside of the magic fire. This got one of my votes!
You're always so kind, thanks ^-^ I was thinking of a story, how did you guess? She's weaving a location spell, to lead her through the wasteland.
The composition and use of colour is great here. I like how you tell a small story with just this single image (or at least, to me it tells a story). c:
Strength: 18
Plus, she has magic. I agree, because there's so many awesome girl artists, and they need to gain more recognition
Cool but... she is wearing a pot of fluid? How strong is she?
Anyways, I couldnt help notice that you are a girl/woman. This is great! The world neds more female artists.
thanks fawful. Well, there simply aren't enough shades for me to use and make it any better. If you have an idea for a paintover, please show me!
the angle looks less perfectly side-on, which is an improvement. But the red lighting still makes it pop out and also seem like it's closer to the viewer than the pot is.
Sorry about that neofotistou, I know your a lass the guv bit was a mistake, guess I got carried away.
changed the dither of the gun a bit, on the green side. is it any better?
Thanks PixelKnight! I'm a lass, dear, not a guv ^-^ But it means a lot coming from you
Thanks DawnBringer. I totally see what you mean, if I eliminate the green. I don't want her face to look that busy and caucasian to me. I'm going for a flat mug, since she's native american. Could you be right though? I'm done worrying, this was like 16 hours of pixelling, I'm too tired to revisit.
i know, the green light source thing was only a minor nitpick. The revolver was what caught my attention
Couldn't resist testing this palette with a Quick edit. My use of yellow next to green may not conform with the style of the rest of the image...but the green could be replaced with more yellow. Anyways; I'm just fooling around here...you do great work.
I know, I've tried. The only way I managed to add drama to her face was by using dithering, and then it looked so unnecessary and busy. She's cartoonish, she's tank girl. I feel fine with how she looks. I'm always open to paintovers, though, hint. :)
Lovely image and composition. Though the dither on the metalparts of the gun seem a bit harsh and the face look a bit flat...I'd like something more dramatical, like a face lit by a campfire.
@Leroy This peice is a weekly challenge submission. When the weekly challenge timer elapses you can vote for this one to win if you want. Just click the Weekly Challenge Countdown link on the front page, right-hand column.
@fawful Glad you like it. It's a painting, it's not a photograph. We're allowed to take liberties with the light sources. I made an arbitrary decision that there's a green light coming from the right, independent from the green magic smoke. That was a conscious decision.
thanks a lot for the critique,
This is lovely. Nice character and excellent composition.
it all looks very nice, i like the angle of the background.
However, I think that revolver sticks out like a sore thumb. It looks like it's just floating there and is at a perfect side-on angle. It's also way too brightly lit when most of it looks like it should be out of reach from the light sources.
Speaking of light sources, some of the areas lit by green light ,such as the right leg and revolver, make no sense and look like they should be lit instead with orange light from the sunset in the background.
This is just AWESOME! The colors are tasteful, the character is incredible .. This is by far one of my favorite piece ever! Great job! BRILLIANT!
@showtime Thank you! Composition is the only thing that I could be sure of with this piece, because I was so uncertain that the colors would work,, so I put emphasis on it.
@Mr Special: Thank you! It sort of evolved on its own after a while. I was very worried that all this dithering would ruin it, but it worked fine I think.
thank you everyone!
@jalonso, you're so right! I was staring at it for so long that I lost sight of it. Thanks
So well done in every way. My only nitpick is the line quality of the bottom-most and ground shadow dark blue area.
Amazing! I can't really go in depth with all the levels of skill in this, but I just wanna say, great job. You made the palette feel so interesting. Excellent use of the palette. Seriously
Look how he got 2nd place with the best piece in the challenge
(also there were only 2 pieces for the top so that can be considered last place, too).
About your absence; don't get too involved and you'll never burn out. I see you as a fresh blood for the community but only as a pixel artist, the rest is of secondary importance.
