what?!?! this is amazing! really nice job, every little detail adds so much to the piece. the shark is superb, the bubbles flying by give directional movement, and the waves and splashes around the boat are done so well. everything about this is wonderful!
This is very good. The water surface is too still though.
this is downright astounding. thank you so much for posting it. wow. excellent work <3 your animations are very inspiring!!
this is awesome,
btw did you use a 3D model as reference for that boat? nevermind read your comments, the lighting looks very effective at conveying the 3 Dimensionality of the boat
Thanks Hapiel. I reduced the size of the preview image and made it my avatar. :)
Hi wayne, the problem with the avatar is that it is too wide. If you make the preview icon 64x64 or smaller you can use it as an avatar, no need to submit it again!
Hi Wayne, I'm new to this site, and just recently finished my first animated wolf cub, which was 50X50pixels. I was wondering how big is your file just for the shark, it's awesome by the way. The movement is very fluid and natural.
Do I need to submit the preview icon (shark only) as a new piece to make it my avatar?
Excellent work, especially on pixelling the full 360 rotation on the boat!
Those rays of light just make this entire thing so lively to watch!
This peice has a really good mini-game-esque feel to it.
killer shading on the boat :) it looks.. hyper realistic.. amazing. The bubbles are a real nice touch
This is great animation. although it does look like the shark got more lovings, the piece really does seem better as a whole.
yeah the bigger piece is funny! the animation rocks bro
but... as the boat rotates the line would get smaller but that animation rocks
Superb animation! I rather like the water texture and love the back and forth motion of the shark. The only minor crit I can find is that the boat could maybe use a little more details. It looks almost like it's rendered via flat shaded polygons.
My god! That's really well done! Such a short loop, but so effective.
Well I am interested! That is truly awesome, making this from scratch... I'm totally stunned on how you managed to make that boat. Really... incredible. wow.
Huge work, crazy animation!
Just wondering if the "shadows rays" should not be parallel since the light seems centered?
I was like: Hey this looks like the animation quality of... and then I saw your name ;)
It is always great when (proffesional) artist like pixel art and give it a go :), thanks for making and sharing this!
You could have just had the surface dissapearing into the background at half the rate of the rest of the animation and looped everything else.
Snowk, Sai, and AirStyle,
Yes, I didn't like how the waves came out either. That was part of the reason I only wanted to submit the shark as a stand alone. I tried and tried to animate those waves and it was just getting too frustrating. I had a few more ideas on how to animate it (remember OutRun and SpaceHarrier?) but I wasn't having fun anymore. Hats off to all those FX animators out there :)
Here's some of my failed attempts at animating the waves (pants down moment):
-TestA- felt like floating ice sheets
-TestB- wasn't crazy about the amount of motion
-TestC- I thought this one was "okay", it was a runner up to the one I went with
In the end I went with something simple that was more of a BG element than animated. Maybe I'll try again one day to get those waves right. :)
Delicious,
I've always admired your choice of colors, shading and rendering. Love that toon look! On my next piece I want ot experiment more with breaking the values into distinct high, mid, and lows like yours do.
Pwei and Gavralcraw, thanks!
I wish this was rendered further. Beautiful animation though.
This looks great! Howe, ever have you considered animating the surface of the water? You know, make the cross waves move toward the background with everything else?
I think there should be more of a splash and bubbles from when the boat hits the surface and then goes under again. It also feels weird how everything but the top where you can see the surface of the water is animated. Great smooth animation nonetheless.
This is so cool! my only crit is that the water up top looks like teh same water even though it should be scrolling. That had me confused as to what was going on for a while. This is really great though.
Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I listened to your suggestions and uploaded the bigger piece as the detail file, and just the shark as the preview.
Hey Ellian and Chanfan, no I didn't use any 3D referencing of any kind. My process for getting the drawings solid and dimentional was first drawing very rough then refining and refining. Here's some progress images I kept if you're interested...
Rough color exploration on Shark
Even more color testing and drew in the fishing line
Did you use a 3D reference for this and the boat? Looks awesome! :)
Awesome but bigger piece is way better. Maybe you should put this to preview.
I prefer it with the background too. Ellian i think the black pixels may have been to help AA with the background.
That is damn nice!
There are some frames where I can see clusters of black pixels, that I find disturbing. Mostly on its tail fin...
Anyway, awesome piece, incredibly smooth. I was wondering, what is your process for making this ? Going from scratch, frame per frame, or do you use any (3D or not) program to build up an animated sketch/skeleton?
I love it
