man thats what I see in the background I can't see his face:
I didn't even see the golem in the background. Pretty blended in! Good job!
Really cool piece! The giant (stone golem?) is my fav bit - giant creatures are my weakness:) Personally I prefer the initial palette - the scene gives more dark, cold and ruthless feeling
I fought you were inspiring on fool LOLOLOL http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/54911.htm
I thought this was slym's work, rather than iLKke's. Still, not bad.
I was able to tell that this was imitating iLKke's work right away. The clean, abstract, chunky pixel clusters give off the vibe that is often seen from iLKke's work. Well done.
Contrast and hue variety don't seem to match his (I did note the time you didn't have for this). To be honest, it reminds me most of Fool's http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/54911.htm.
Aye, slym said exactly what I thought - the ideas are very close to those of iLKke's, and I could easily imagine him doing a piece with this content, but I'm not sure I see his specific pixelling style.
One of the things I can see in iLKke's style in the pieces you linked was that, in general, iLKke's style is much more, umm, uneven is the word I'd use. ILKke's buildings tend to me strongly structured and squared off, while his decpiction of stone and especially foliage is a lot more scattered and uneven, with the exception of the rock from the The Old Bridge piece, and looking at Jamon's previous work I'd say that the rocks in that collaboration were mostly influenced by his style. I'd say to look at the background rock outcroppings and the ground in the SotC piece to see how he did stone (and the sky is a perfect example of the lines not always being straight and even). Now, if you're looking at some of his other pieces as well, you can see more of the evenness of the lines (such as in the Jamon in the Woods piece). But I think that with the way you're going with this, some more unevenness in the lines might make it a better imitation of his style. The spots where your work is most "clean," most different from his in this way, is in that front rock and on the hands. Of course, most of my assumptions here go out the window on his recent logo work and the SoundBytes posters, but I think you're more imitating his scene styles than either of those.
As for the palette, it works as it is, but something I've always noticed in iLKke's stuff is that he has a wide variety of color, but his shadows always seem to tend toward a greenish-gray color or a purpleish-gray color. Maybe tilting your piece in those color directions would make it much more capable at "fooling" people into thinking it's iLKke's work. I'm not really capable enough to show you what I mean about the lines through an edit, but here's an example of the sort of thing I mean with the color: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b330/maxdxam/bab_ilkke_edit2.png
Now, to be honest, I like it a lot. I'm not the best at this style analysis business, but I figured I'd give it a shot to try to give you some actual points. I could be totally wrong on these things, but it's what I see. I mean, both of the ones that are heavily "uneven" with their lines were rushed a bit - one to get it in on time, the other was just started very late in the challenge, so maybe this isn't a true piece of his style, but I'm comparing it to those since those are the ones you linked. I hope some of this helps, looking forward to your next pieces man!
I completely disagree with the previous comments. When taken the time to really understand the piece it's very obvious that it's inpired by iLKke. At first glance I thought that the pixeling itself was not as close to iLKke's style. It's the ideas in this scene that prove it quite clear that this is inspired by iLKke. I can easily imagine iLKke creating a scene just like this. I would have liked to see a bit more of an interesting palette, however the lack of one is in no way damaging the piece. Great, inspiring work.
It would be nice if you gave some actual critisism rather than just basically telling me I failed.
not seeing the inspiration at all tbh. it's nice and clean though
I have to say it isn't reminding me of iLKke's work at all... at least not yet.
I can see his face, but philippe, that's hilarious!
Excellent piece, by the way. Rocks are always a hard thing for me to do. I think you did well with them here.
