A very good constructive post by philippe :) Just keep on pixeling Markus, you'll get there!
EDIT: Also check this out, it's a very helpful tutorial: http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299&PID=139318
Hi there Markus! Since I was mentiones here I will try to help you with an edit in composition, colors, ideas, concept etc...
1.
Lineart, that's the first you should do when you are working with anatomy, at least that's what I do first. If it looks bad its way easier to edit it and mistakes can be perceived and correct in the beggining ( before its too late ).
2.
Colors, I've kept the same ones you had and added a red tone. Palletes can be done by any color, what matters is the shift.
3.
Added a white border to add more contrast to it, contrast is really important in pixel art, if your pixel art is more darker then lighter then add a white border to is ( if it's a sprite or a game, not a square canvas scene ) and the opposite if the pixel art is way too bright. Added a source of light from the right, so, it's no longer 2D, now it looks a little 3D.
and added grass with shrooms, that adds a little of ambientation and people usually like shrooms, art is about touching the person's "heart", people want to see things they like and that is a really hard area to be mastered.
4.
Increased contrast with a program I have downloaded, I just use it to edit colors basically ( Paint.net ). I reused lots of color tones as you can see, that's also something to be mastered!.
Good luck on future projects! Hope you find your way in pixel art and turn into an amazing artist. Any doubts just PM me, btw, all I did is a sketch, no Anti Aliasing ( Anti Aliasing is a method to refine your piece and make it look realistic, its added between 2 or more tones with huge contrast ), Dithering ( to reduce the color count and sometimes depending on how it's used to have a great shift between low contrast colors and create a gradient or add textures on mud for exemple ) and other methods that will develop your style.
Style can be distinguished by your palette and/or use of colors, way you texture stuff, how realistic or cartonistic it is, and other things. As I said, any questions just PM me.
And, don't feel sad when you see other people more experienced then you, it just takes practice and time and hopefully you will reach something great.
Hi Markus, I'm not sure if this is your first pixel art or not. It is however better than mine was at the same age :/ I could mention the lack of anatomy, or jagged lines or in general how low par this is when compared to all the art on this website. And I just did haha But there is a lot of room for improvement and that always means there is potential. Just look at philippejugnet 's pixel art, there is hope in the world. But that comes with practice. Keep at it.
If you are looking for feedback, the best places to go are the forums found on this site or http://www.wayofthepixel.net/index.php I'd advise you go there first before posting in the gallery, that way when you do upload, you know it is as good as can be for your current knowledge and skill set. Hope that helps.
I am just 12 years old i have trained alot on pixel arts but this was my first pixel art i really tried to make cool
