Hm, odd. I was wondering when you were gonna submit this, but just noticed it now a few days later.
Lovely job, Dex.
You shouldn't feel discouraged just because it didn't get as much attention as you anticipated. It finally reached the weekly showcase, that should give it what it deserves. No need in re-submitting a finished piece for the sake of getting it publicity, it will come over time this next month - Trust me.
A few perspective issues, but lovely attention to detail. The texture is a bit repetitive though throughout the piece (Montser and environment share the same, even)
Keep it up. :)
It looks great to me. Don't sell yourself short.
"I was very satisfied with the outcome." - Dex (Then don't sweat what a few people think.)
I agree this piece was 'cripplingly underrated' not by me but wow... anyway it happens and I never bothered to figure out why exactly some pieces here go under the radar.
Though I must say he's right about the SSSS shape going on. I didn't think it was to severe because I was too dazzled by the awesome scaley texture throughout the piece and the great colors. But it does seem a bit weird. I don't think it hurts the piece much though.
My 1st wonder was how you spent so much time on every little chip in the ground etc(or rather that it's so detailed and you didn't use apparent shortcuts). it's pretty insane.
dex I made you an edit, I guess the perspective looked a bit off on the creature, IMO, its really great as I already said but it didnt looked "3D". the head was too big compared to the body size and the SSSS shape its doing on its body didnt looked that great either.
chill down dex the same thing happend to me ( conversations under this one ).
I dont have much to say I'm not a great talker, good luck :)
It is a gift, right? If the pistachio was satisfied, so should you!
No point to be disappointed Dex, this is only a good sign. Also unless you think this is your best work, you got to be ready for some criticism.
I feel as though if it's "not representative of my best work," then I don't need to be showing it. I'll probably go back and revise some things and resubmit it later. I'm just incredibly disappointed, is all.
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Deleting it because it didn't get "enough attention"? I'm as surprised as you are that your piece isn't even in the weekly showcase yet, even to the point where it's below my pixel of a bunch of rocks (like, seriously?), but to me that seems a bit immature.
I mean, I respect and adore your art, but come on, man. That's a bit low.
It hasn't even been a week yet and it's been a fairly slow week as well, in my opinion. Give it some time, at least.
... Or, I'm looking at this the wrong way. If that's the case, just promise it won't have disappeared completely.
Well, I think you're underrating yourself then. Your last 5 pieces are simply amazing and that raises the expectations. Also being pushed back to 2nd page rarely gets a piece like this out of weekly showcase, it'll get into weekly showcase tomorrow when a few older pieces will drop. Then this piece will get most of the possible ratings that it deserves in the 3 days it stays in the showcase. So delete it only if you're gonna review and resubmit it.
...I agree that there are things that could be better about this, but I had hardly a month to do this. However, I feel that it is leagues better than my piece for SS last year, which is rated much higher than this and got much more attention. This piece got pushed back to the second page in literally two or three hours, and honestly I think that has a lot to do with it. Also, saying "I can do much better" makes me believe you think this is way off par for me, which I don't believe at all, I was very satisfied with the outcome. Despite this, I believe I'll be deleting this piece shortly.
Well this is an excellent piece, that's for sure. But I doubt it will be rated super high. Because people know you're an awesome pixel artist and expect much better from you. For example the monster is misshaped and mis-lighted. There could be light plays on the ground to give a better underwater feeling. I think you can fix the tail and the arm of the monster for a real masterpiece.
Note: I'm not really an advocate of the rating system but I saw that I had rated this 6/9 without reading any of the comments below. If everyone feels like me this won't get into monthly top 3, if that's your expectation (which is natural after all the work).
I've got to say, I'm pretty disappointed about it.. hardly any of the people I consider "friends" here have even noticed this.
However, for those of you that have, thanks so much, I really appreciate it.
idk hiw this fidnt reached the showcase, maybe because rhey know the know the potentia this has so they dont vote:
Great work on the colors, shading, ....but don't like the monster shape (outlines).
I'm still shocked this isn't in the monthly top 10 right now.
