Reminds me of Dragon's Curse/Wonder Boy III. You concept art in the link is great as well.Did you do any more with this project?
@LunchPolice Thanks! Yeah, I noticed that too, and was going to fix it all, but my idea got scrapped when a game came out that basically was the exact same thing. Oh well!
Awesome! This piece has a very GBA feel, like Minish Cap or Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure. I think his left arm blends in a little too much with the rest of his body though; either the torso underneath needs less detail or the arm itslf needs more harsh shading or outlining. Also, that's a sick character design dude :D
This piece made me discover your previous works, which are absolutely lovely!
As previously stated, i too think the face could be more lively (compared to your others sprites or the artwork itself). Design is very cool btw <3
Looks pretty nice, but the face needs more character I think. I would be more interested in playing a game starring that other lion-type guy you animated a few pixels ago! He seems to have more life (the obvious fact that he is animated aside).
@Manupix Ahh, okay! Yeah, I did some searching on banding and I see what you mean. I never knew that was a thing, but I'll see what I can do. :D
And yeah, the sword hand is a bit off, now that I look at it. Though I'm still going to give that sword a look over. Thanks again!
@Marurun Thank you! I'm really happy with his design.
@HeatPhoenix Exactly. I could put a smirk on his face, which I initially had, but it looked a bit cheesy to have him smiling the whole time through a platformer. :p
All about banding. It's mostly on the dark/bright cloth fringes.
I meant the sword hand, not the sword!
It might take just one pixel to give the mouth a feline-like smile, like in the drawing.
I don't think the mouth is a big problem considering the concept art has the same kind of mouth anyway.
Thanks! I'll take those things into consideration. Now that I have it colored, messing around with it should be easy. I second the notion to lose detail in shadow. That was primarily my concern, but I wanted to see what others thought. The mouth I'm okay with not being very lionish, but I may play around with it to see if anything looks better to me. At that point, it's a style thing, honestly.
The sword? Yeah, I had trouble on that. I'll give it some love. As for banding, well.. I'm not sure what banding is. :D Could you please explain? I'll see if I can find some examples online.
Good start ;)
The contrast between colors is good but there could be a stronger shading/light source feel, esp highlights. You could deliberately lose some detail in shadows to gain in volume readability.
Palette needs better integration, at this point it's 5 separate ramps.
The mouth isn't lionish!
The sword hand isn't very readable.
Beware of banding!
Unfortunately not. I found my concept to be similar to other games coming out, so I'll keep the character and repurpose him later on.
